    I was thinking about this and if sprayed, it's not going to penetrate the wood - you aren't there with a cloth pushing it into the grain. So if (with the right thinning) you can get it to spray, it will just sit on top of the existing DT finish, rather like adding DT to wood that's been sanded to 2000 grit smoothness. You might then be able to spray a few layers of Tru-Oil on (rather than rub or brush), which might possibly hold it on, but there's a good chance that it won't take well over the sprayed DT and could peel off when you come to sand the Tru-Oil flat.

    Yep, exactly this! It did not penetrate at all, and because it stays wet, it can easily run.
