I cut a chunk off the bottom near the neck to give better fret access. I painted it with a thinned cerulean blue artist oil paint to let the grain show through a bit, carefully drew the stripes with a black marker, added a coat of linseed oil that greened the grain highlights a bit, then put a few coats of clear poly. After a light sanding it has a smooth matte finish. I got a blank sheet of adhesive pickguard material and cut it to shape. After a trial and error of the wiring, (my first wiring experience), it sounds beastly.
