Not much has happened with this build lately but have finally started to glue in some supports for the back plate and Z inserts.
I am at an impasse at the moment as to what to do about string anchoring. There is definitely not enough meat in the centre block for a standard tailpiece as the studs would be about a third out into the cavity.
Not really keen on a ES style tailpiece ( unless can find something cool that fits the theme or manufacture?)
And I dont think that the timber is strong enough to support a string through arrangement.
So I suppose I am throwing it out to the brains trust for some ideas on what might look cool/suitable

Schaller Signum perhaps?

Thanks FW had a look but the 81mm centres will probably be too close to the edge. BUT it did prompt a memory about another forumite who used a deusenburg wraparound and yep after some online research this morning have purchased a Deusenburg wraparound that has 74mm post centres. Next challenge to make it black in colour to suit as only comes in silver or gold.

Started gluing in the support strips for the Z ( this is going to take a while) with just enough of a ledge to hold in place.
Finally committed to how I am going to light the fretboard inlay with side lit optic fibre to eliminate any electrical outside the body. Drilled access hole from board to top of tang and trenched -it aligns fairly well with the wiring hole for the bridge pickup.
The veneer on the headstock is super thin with no sanding so will have to replace. That gave the option of back-lighting the MOP (earth) with optic fibre. So trenched to the headstock inlay and sunk in a chamber to accommodate the optic. The fibre will be sunk in putty back along the neck. The MOP allows some light through and will thin the back side a little as want it subtle. the routing doesn't look that pretty at the moment but wont be seen once putty filled and fretboard glued.

The fibre optic is pretty stiff to bend so using boiling water did a quick test. Bends surprisingly well when hot and once cool holds the bent shape. You've gotta be quick though as it loses the flex in a couple of secs. will have to look at how to bend into a tight spiral to get a s much light area as possible. Routed the back of the fretboard to allow for optic to be put in. still a little bit of cleanup to do but has good light transfer.
The twelfth and thirteenth frets are going to have to be glued in. Not sure whether to put a thin layer of clear epoxy in to add that little extra strength.
