I like nitro finishes, I think they age well. and they are easy to repair if they get damaged. But there are lost of other options out there and nitro has a lot of toxic solvents so you need to take care when and where you spray - and you must use a face mask that's suitable for solvent spraying.

Thanks Zandit, yes I noticed this... my kit arrived yesterday. Super thin! What did you do in terms of sanding the top?

Hey Slayer, so this is the LP-1S kit I presume. For a spalted veneer I just give it a light sand with 320 grit paper. The pores/pits and small crevices will be filled with clear coat so don't worry when it doesn't feel flat when you run your fingers over. Remember wear the dusk mask and have a fan blowing the dust away and do it outdoors !
    Current Builds and status
scratch end grain pine tele - first clear coat on !
    JBA-4 - assembled - final tweaks
Telemonster double scale tele - finish tobacco burst on body and sand neck

    Completed builds
scratch oak.rose gum Jazzmaster - assembled needs setup
    MK-2 Mosrite - assembled - play in
Ash tele with Baritone neck - neck pup wiring tweaks and play in

Hey Wokka, yep the LP-1S. Thanks for that... whilst my veneer isn't as nice as Zandit's it will still look good!

Good stuff Slayer, look forward to pics of the kit you scored in a new build diary. Think Zandit won the lucky dip contest with his veneer. I haven't seen a bad spalted veneer yet, they are all so different. As long as you have some nice contrast in the grain and some nice dark spalt lines. Sometimes you can even see some flaming

Yep, pretty much as Wokka described. I still have some ridges in my finish, but then I probably only did about 7-8 final coats of DT that were very thin.
Don't go comparing mine to yours!! Depending on how you execute your design plan, it could easily end up being a better build than mine!

Nah no comparisons... each build is unique... but that veneer you got was bloody awesome!

Finally got my final DT stain coats started... just the top coated so far but looks great... to me anyways.

Do you rub back a little with final DT coats?
