    If it's good wet 'n' dry, then soaking's fine and the grit won't come off. If it comes off, its poor quality paper and you need to use better stuff. Maybe if you want to be a bit more aggressive on flat surfaces with coarser grits, then don't soak it first, but once you get to 600 and above, you are certainly in the polishing stages so you want to be as kind to the finish as possible, whilst still letting the paper take off some the surface peaks without adding any significant scoring of its own.

    It is good quality wet and dry. I'll probably put another two more coats on at least and wait a few days before trying wet sanding again. I have 600 and 800 here but think it's too hungry so I wouldn't go there because the 1200 was as well. I'll probably start back on the 1200 after these few coats then apply another thinner coat before doing 2000.

    After that I'll do the micro mesh pads working my way up to 12000 as I did with this build(although this was with TO):
