Hand crafting guitars, because Death Rays are expensive.
Stripped her down today. Why would they use 500k pots with single coils??
Yep, 3/4 size but a good starter for her. I also got the matching amp but needs a new AC adapter. No problems getting one.
As far as shape and colour schemes go, hmmm, still thinking about that. Thinking of a beaten copper look. Always wanted to try one.
The body looks like solid wood with only a couple of small dings and two dings on the neck. Easy fix.
The bridge pickup is routed big enough to fit a humbucker but I'll let her master the basics before playing with the big boys.
Hey buddy, Rustoleum has a beaten copper effect rattle can that I was going to use on some outdoor furniture. Here is the link...

No rules saying you can't and it really depends on the tonality of the pickups. If they're a bit on the dull side, then the 500k pots would brighten them up a bit compared to 250k pots. So I'd say it comes down to what it sounds like. Reading some reviews, a lot of people liked the sound from the stock set-up.

Cool project and always good to have kids interested in music .
Interested to see this sanded back
Waz...Thanks mate. I also saw some at Bunnings (My second favourite store... next to Dan Murphy's). They have a great range of rattle cans with some interesting effects and colours. And who doesn't like getting hammered?
Simon....Ahhh. The old ones sounded like crap, then fell apart in my hand as I removed them. I will have to try the new ones and see how it sounds. Could it have something too do with it's a small size and short scale length too?
Just waiting for the weather to change so I can start sanding. Living in a 2 bedroom unit, the missus get a bit upset if I sand inside. Strange that?!?
I could do a Cronulla Sharks design too. She loves the Sharkies.
Scale length wouldn't have much to do with pot value selection, especially at 3/4 scale, where you are only talking about a three semitone increase in pitch. Maybe for a full octave increase you'd want to loose less of the top end as some of the highest notes may start to sound a bit dull. It may be more to do with the body wood used. If that was taking away some of the treble (in comparison to the same pickups in a standard Tele) then making the pickups brighter to compensate would make some sense. But that's all conjecture, and I doubt we'll ever really know why.

Simon..You're right, we will never truly know and we could theorize about all sorts of reasons, could just be a matter of cost reduction too., but isn't half the enjoyment. Love this shit!
Waz...We are no longer looking for Harold...too busy looking at the trophy! ha ha
