Oh Zandit, Zandit, Zandit...why did you post this. and why oh why did I click the link. I am utterly engrossed in that build now. Not to mention the philosophising surrounding it. Wonderful, wonderful stuff. My faux lamentations aside, most sincerely I thank you.

Cheers for the link Zandit, I clicked on the link too, and I've got it bookmarked, thinking about the aesthetics of the Wabi-Sabi philosophy feels strangely liberating from the Tyranny of perfection and order.

    Update:

Okay so it's been a while since I posted an update for you guys so here we go, my Hot Rod Strat is getting some new strings today, I'm going to be setting it up with a set of DAddario EXL110 46-10 gauge strings today, I also swapped out the chrome Schaller Lockmeister Floyd Rose bridge I had installed on it so I could try the Schaller on my BC Rich Warlock guitar as I'm seriously thinking of upgrading the Floyd Rose Special that was on it to a Black Schaller Lockmeister, incidentally the Schaller bridge is virtually a drop-in replacement for the Floyd Rose Special so no mods to the BC Rich Warlock were needed to make it fit, which is a good thing, I also un-installed the six Chrome Gotoh tuners from the Hot Rod Strat neck and used them on the Gold Strat, I used some black tuners from an old Charvette neck as substitutes, they are all still good enough, re-stringing the Hot Rod Strat is going to be the first of two jobs to get both it and the Gold Strat back into a playable state so I can play them at some up and coming band rehearsals.

I think I'm going to go with all black hardware on my Hot Rod Strat since it seems to look better, the chrome jackplate is fine so it's staying as is.

I'm going to have to go looking for a new Locking Nut for the Hot Rod Strat cause all the ones I have don't seem to work as well as they should, the main serious issue is that some of the strings don't ring out cleanly like they're supposed to and have a clearly audible sitar-buzz to them, I know that it has nothing to do with the frets, the neck, or the action, it is caused by some of the V-Notches in the Locking Nut being cut far too wide, that's the conclusion I've came to, a bit of a pain cause it'll take some time and money to sort out.

Memo to self.....never ever bother owning a guitar with Floyd Trem system, sounds like way too much hassle for someone as simple as me.

Yep, my first guitar was a cheap Jap Strat copy and got fed up with it going out of tune each time I gently used the trem so loaded it up with 5 springs so it could do me no more harm.

I'll have to agree with you on that one mate, having spent a lot of time setting the one on my Hot Rod Strat,I can only say that Floyd Rose Trems are a royal P.I.T.A. (excuse my French) to set up so that they work correctly, and even then they are only about 80% effective at staying in tune, you have to really want one to be able to put up with it.

I've only just managed to get the Floyd on my Hot Rod Strat sorted out, boy what a pain, I hope none of the strings on it decide to break.

I do know some tricks to make them easier/quicker to set up though.
