    Hollow Body suggestion

    Hi everyone
I have not got a hollow body guitar in my collection and would like to try one.
Would you be kind enough to suggest a kit and upgrades that would give me a great guitar.
Currently have USA tele/strat/les paul and gretsch so would like to end up with a quality guitar
Only play at home now so something with versatile sound would be good
    Thanks in advance
    John

Hi John, welcome to the forum. Depends if you like a thin or thicker style semi hollow body.
If you prefer a thinner body then a ES-1G will be a cool axe. There is also a 12 string version ES-12G
If you prefer a thicker body then GR-1SF or ES-3 would suit.
Have a look on the PBG site at semi hollow kits and have a think which you would prefer link below:

Once you work out which kit you like then we can talk upgrades

I recently built an ES-5 and can tell you it is quite loud without being plugged in. It doesn't have the clarity and resonance of an actual acoustic but is not by any means unpleasant. I replaced the P90 with a mini humbucker but I think they sound great not matter which. The ES3 would be very similar I think except it has 2 humbuckers. If you look up Shazza's builds in the build diary section she did an awesome video diary and sound tests on the GR-1SF

sounds good John, there are many upgrades you can do. Are you interested in a Bigsby whammy bar system ?
I would look at upgrading pickups, electrics, put a bone nut on and possibly upgrading the bridge

    Hi John,
I would look for a compatible Bigsby tremelo system, I am not sure which model will be compatible with the ES-1G.
As for pickups what style of music do you like playing ? Some humbuckers are more suited to rock or blues or jazz styles.

As for the electrics I would order mini pots will be much easier to get through the F holes. Get a decent 3 way switch and jack. Capacitors will depend on what style of music you will be playing and your preference of tone
