I looked up those Trainwrecks last night and wow, what a sound......even bigger wow when I found out their price!!!

Once I picked myself up off the floor went back looking at the Lamington's as they are now looking much better priced than some of the boutique offerings from overseas.

Haven't heard or done any research on AC15 heads and wonder if their night train might be a cheaper alternative worth considering?

    G'day Waz,

If you are interested in the Trainwreck have a look at the Ceriatone kits they do a very good clone.

    Link here http://www.ceriatone.com/series/model/tw-clone/

The Overtone kit is a clone of the Dumble Overdrive Special as used by Robben Ford

Edited to add, Ceriatone are very highly regarded by the guys over on TDPRI

Thanks Dave, not ready to spend around $1k on an amp or kit at this stage nut will keep that in mind for when there is more spare coin to splurge with.

For those of us not willing to spend a fortune... is there a decent beginners design you'd recommend?

There would be but it really depends on what power, sound and characteristics you are after.

Edited to add, if you know who's sound you would like to emulate and know what type of rig they are using do a google for clones of that type and then head over to the Fender or Gibson forums and see what the people there think of the clone that you are leaning towards.

If it were available I would be looking for a Gramatico clone and Harmonic Design pickups for the Tele.

I have Village Blackwood pickups ( 52 Black Guard spec ) in the Tele and will find a clone that has the same characteristics of the Gramatico DFW Twin http://grammaticoamps.com/Testimonials/redd-volkaert/

Weber kits are also highly regarded and the images for each kit give a fair indication of what each one is a clone of, still close to Ceriatone kits in price though

Anyone got some nice designs for any bass amp kits? Don't want anything that would cost an arm and a leg either... Also worth mentioning I'm looking for a practice / rehearsal head, that could be put in a Marshall style enclosure for a bigger look and not too much power.

I have these two. The Peavey Valveking 112 I have had for a while, It is 50W all tube and is loud as but these days the volume knob barely gets turned very far which is why I have the Orange Crush 20 which is a great little 2 channel solid state amp, it sounds great and is loud when it needs to be.

Here's a pic of my recently acquired Fender Super Twin amp sitting on top of my Marshall MA100C amp, how's this for a cool looking guitar rig?, it'll look cooler once I've fixed up the Super Twin's cabinet, I'm going to spruce it up a bit with a Paisley front panel after I've re-glued the corners and re-tolexed the cabinet, anyway:

The Fender Super Twin is rated to put out 180 Watts RMS (or, 390 Watts peak....yikes!!) from a set of 6 6L6 power output valves.

The Marshall is rated to put out 100Watts from a set of four EL34 power valves.

And here's a pic of my little 5 Watt Class-A Single Ended Legacy Valve amp:

Sure, it only puts out 5 Watts, but don't let that fool you....it is a loud 5 Watts!
