Hi Everyone haven't been on the forum in a while due to home renos and a few custom builds and repairs was looking for routing depths and came across this on another forum

Please double check before using these but they may prove useful

TELECASTER ROUTES:
NECK POCKET: 0.625”
NECK PICKUP: 0.687”
WIRING ROUTE: 0.687”
BRIDGE PICKUP: 0.850”
CONTROL CAVITY: 1.50” (1.25” ON THINNER BODIES)
BODY THICKNESS: 1.75” (50’s TELE’s varied from 1.50” to 1.75”)
ROUNDOVERS: 1/8”

JAGUAR (MIJ) ROUTES:
NECK POCKET: 0.59”
PICKUPS: 0.59”
LEAD CONTROL CAVITY: 1.38”
THREE SELECTOR CAVITY: 1.38”
RHYTHM CONTROL CAVITY: 1.18”
TREMOLO CAVITY: 1.38”
BODY THICKNESS: 1.75”
ROUNDOVERS: 0.50"

some handy info there Euroa, cheers, pity they are all in the inferior imperial unit, maybe if someone is really bored they can convert all the measurements to metric

I wasn't that bored...It might take awhile,bad enough converting to fractions of an inch!

Some of them work out to really crap metric equivalents.

If it is not critical measurements you can round to the nearest mm or 0.1mm I guess?

TELECASTER ROUTES:
NECK POCKET: 0.625” = 15.875mm
NECK PICKUP: 0.687” = 17.449mm
WIRING ROUTE: 0.687”
BRIDGE PICKUP: 0.850” = 21.59mm
CONTROL CAVITY: 1.50” (1.25” ON THINNER BODIES) 38.1mm/ 31.7mm
BODY THICKNESS: 1.75” (50’s TELE’s varied from 1.50” to 1.75”) =44.45mm
ROUNDOVERS: 1/8” =3.175mm

It depends how many decimal places you want to go to.

Man I really dislike point zero zippidy do dah of a mm measurements
We are building guitars, not highly sensitive scientific devices...
So yeah, round it to the nearest mm and all is good

Sorry DB, I work in industries that deal with deadlies at stupid speeds and high pressures. the devils are in the decimals.

Sure thing Frankie. I did an apprenticeship as a boilermaker in a factory that built the XPT trains and long wall mining equipment.
We had to work to .5mm tolerances, but with Guitars that really isnt necessary

Hey Frankie, fair enough when the decimals are important but who can set a router depth within 0.1mm ? I'd like to see that. For routing depths of a guitar the most important one is the neck pocket depth. Pickup depths not really important as long as the pup fits in the cavity

It becomes habit, Wokka I have to remember that its not always necessary. FWIW the best I've got on my router is +/- 0.25mm! :P
