    Another new member

Hello everyone , I'm new to the forum so thought I would say Gday .
I am waiting for an LP1-M with AC4 toneriders ,bone nut and grovers
so can't wait to get my hands on it and make a start .
I will wait to see it first before I make a final decision on the finish
but I'm stuck on a high gloss cherry sunburst ( a lah Les Paul Standard ).
The guitar I have ( an HS Anderson A-1 if anyone knows these ) is cherry
sunburst and I love that guitars finish .
We will have to wait and see .
I will do my best to remember to do a build diary along the way as well .

    All the best
    Andrew

welcome to the forum Andrew, there are quite a few forum members from Melbourne. The LP-1M is a great kit I've built one, love the mahogany bodies and necks. It's worth popping the flame maple veneer gives them a cool look.
Look forward to seeing your build diary, ask any questions you have there.
So what sort of guitar amp do you have to be called Ampman ? haha

I thought someone might ask that .
    Well , I have 3 , a Marshall MS1 microstack , which considering it can run off a 9 volt
battery is a great little thing .
The next is an amp I built from an old stereo amp that I stripped and rebuilt as a guitar amp .
It is based on a Gibson GA8T so is all tube using 2 6BM8 's and 2 12AX7's . Power output
on the day I measured it was 11.9 watts . It sounds great and does it at sane volume levels .
The next is a Marshall 1966 JTM 45/100 running into an original basket weave box .
Its not a copy , its the real Mcoy so not only sounds good but looks fantastic as well .

I will need to ask a couple of things so will do that on the diary .
Thanks for the tip re the flame maple , I was considering that .

    Cheers

no worries Ampman sounds like you are fully qualified to have your name. Would love to see a pic of them especially the 1966 Marshall !
To pop the flame maple I apply black stain to the veneer without any sanding, then sand that about 180/220 to 320 grit then apply your cherry burst, beware the veneers are pretty thin so don't oversand/
Here's mine I did coolangatta gold and jarrah stain on mahogany back and sides

Here's a couple of pics . Hopefully this works
Please excuse the photo and the rough appearance of the DIY amp .
It was built as an engineering prototype not a finished product .
It will eventually go into a cabinet with a single 12 " speaker I think
but at the moment I just use the quad box . Not the best as you need to
belt old Celestions with a certain amount of power before they sound good .
The JTM 45/100 certainly does that , a little too much unfortunately !
I recently restored the Marshall and took it back to its original spec so
a keen eye will notice some modern components in there however the circuit
is now 100 % original . The real downer is that I had to replace the output transformer
and the originals haven't been available for years . It has an american equivalent in it now
    but still sounds fantastic .

    Cheers

Welcome Ampman, doesn't look like you'll have any trouble wiring your kit by the look of that amp lol!
Nice to hear that you are waiting to see the kit before finally deciding on the finish, my mantra although it sounds corney is let the wood speak... it will tell you what it wants.
