    hey Joe (what are you doing with that gun in your hand -> Hendrix haha) it could be basswood. The grain looks a bit more plain since you sanded it to 600 grit

    It's smooth as hell though, going to get busy with staining starting this weekend hopefully i can start ordering parts too if my paycheck is on time .

    no worries Joe, 600 grit was pretty keen, hope the stain takes ok as over 400 grit paper polishes the timber surface and there won't be many pores to 'take' the stain. I'd try staining the area under the pickguard to see how the stain goes. If it doesn't take you may need to sand back to 360/400 grit

    My OCD would like me to point out that the line is "Hey Joe,where you going with that gun in your hand?". now if you'll excuse me I need to go and sort my paper clips by wire gauge, size and colour, arrange my pencils in perfect parallel alignment and insure the edge of my eraser is perfectly square.

    Mate, you're welcome but I think its actually a form of Psychosis on my part, there's a wrong coloured tile in the verandah at my house and I simply can't look at it or else I start reaching for the tiling tools.....
