Its a matter of destringing the guitar, sanding, restringing then checking the gap on the 1st fret while depressing the string on the third fret. I also tune the guitar to pitch and check that it can hold open chords, G, E, A, Am, F and D in tune. Set aside an uninterrupted couple of hours, focus, take your time and you will be surprised at the results.
