I've just ordered my first kit last week (TLA-1, butterscotch finish). It's back ordered so it will take a few weeks to arrive. I might as well use the time to learn as much as I can.
My main objective with this first build is to take my two boys (9 and 11) through the steps of making a guitar and hopefully get the youngest a decent first guitar to practice on (he's came up with the idea after learning that Bryan May built the Red Special with his father). The 11 yo plays the bass guitar so that is what I am going to build next if this first project come out good enough.
Myself, I play a PRS S2 at home and I also keep a Squire Affinity Strat at the office. If my build comes out as good as the Squire, I will be pretty happy. I've done a bit of woodworking in the past and also a bit of modding on my Squire. I'm looking at this build as the ultimate fusion of two of my favorite hobbies. Very exciting!
I expect I will be learn a lot from the process and also from this vibrant community. Hoping I can give some back.
