Wokka, I was wonderin if you'd ever thought of building an acrylic guitar?? Sure someone with your skills would be able to master it!

    Hey Ruben,
yes I've thought about a clear acrylic axe but need to do more research how to shape it and get a smooth surface, think it would take alot of wet sanding to get a smooth surface after its been shaped.
Don't rush the Dingotone coats, remember you should be letting it cure at least 3 days between coats

Best way to do that is with $100k worth of CNC. :P
Acrylic guitars sound stupidly bright and are stupidly heavy.

Possible with hand tools, but not fun. Read this: http://tymguitars.com.au/blogs/blog/...erspex-wosrite

cheers for the link Pabs. I thought wood working tools would have trouble like the router bit melting the edges.
CNC would definitely be the go. Never knew the acrylic chips are highly flammable. Could cause a disaster !

I reckon I could see one of these acrylic Mosrites in DB's collection !

    Hey wokka,
yeah I've done only two stain coats of dingotone. last one was on sunday night so not gonna do an intensifier coat until Thursday night.

Pabs, I actually have access to a CNC machine. Gonna try and get that good mate of mine to draw me up a guitar body and try a scratch if this IB-5 works out alright :P At least, its a good thought ...probly wont ever have the skills for it but would be awesome.

Other thing that i'd like to get old of is a chunk of English willow. Anyone know where I could get hold of some in Australia?

no worries Ruben, funny how a colourless coat is called a stain coat. I know that's what it's called on the label.
No idea where to find English willow, that's what cricket bats are made of. Some timbers might be great for a cricket bat but not necessarily a guitar/bass body. I'd guess it would be hard timber so would be hard to cut/shape and may not have a good resonance.

Talk to your local tree surgeon, you never know what those guys can come up with

There is always a workaround for glitches, mistakes and other Guitar building gremlins.....
