This build has not yet started, but it is gathering momentum. I had a cheap Chinese (SX) bass that I had modded quite a bit, that I have been working on replacing. It's a Jazz style bass with PJ pickups that has now become a parts donor for a lighter PJ Jazz bass. That will leave me with the SX body and neck. I have a Bill Lawrence bass pickup that I ended up not using on another project. I had no real idea what to do with them until I saw Bill Wyman playing a headless bass with the Rhythm Kings...and almost simultaneously saw this intriguing headless bass bridge...
So I got one. Messing around with it a bit, I think it's going to be a pain to setup, but may work reasonably well once it's setup. I plan to modify the SX neck to work with it. The idea would be to make the bass short enough to fit in a Strat-sized gig bag.
I have a neck, a pickup, a bridge... If it's going to be short enough to travel with it ought to be light too, right? Paulownia bodies, I was disappointed to learn, have goin up in price...and then I saw one for $15 on Alibaba. $25 after shipping. It arrived today. This feels very organic. Looks like another instrument is in the cue.
