Filled the predrilled pickguard holes using pieces of wooden skewer. Also added a few grafts to the body routes where the new pickguard/control plate was either very close to the edge of the routes, or the new screw holes were inside the route.

As per Phrozin's rattle can instructions, I have purchased Sanding Sealer and rattle cans of Primer/Filler, Candy Red Pearl, and Acrylic clear coat. So far, I have given the body 3 brushed on coats of FW sanding Sealer.

Still too cold in Perth for spraying! So, I have completed the electronics - the pickups are ST-1 neck and bridge pickups and the wiring is Fralin Pickups standard Mustang Wiring from https://www.fralinpickups.com/diagra...iring-diagram/.

The loaded pickguard does seem a little tight on the body, so I will need to widen the routes a bit more.

I've only just realised that you cut the headstock from a "3 a side" blank" - I had assumed it would be too short to do so.

It would be good to have a "6 in line" headstock that also had an angle to it (so no trees).

Yes, this neck was a completely blank paddle! It is not angled though.

The PBG 628 mm 3 x 3 necks with the blank paddles may be able to be converted to a 6 in line!
If you are willing to dowel the holes, cut the paddle and graft the cutoff back on to the other side. As long as the 6 in line holes are on the original, non-grafted, section of the head stock - it should be fine as far as strength. The 6 in line would need about 15 cm to make it work - this seems to fit with my 3 x 3 necks!

It may be worth looking into. It may also be worth contacting Tim at PBG to see if there is anything similar in stock.

Looking cool, but wishing you a bit of warmer weather ;-) The chrome and mother-of-plastic pickguard look great. Going to be even better with the race car finish ;-)

Apparently, the weather will be above 26 degrees from next Monday, but I go back to work next Monday

I did manage to widen the body routes for the sliding switches and the bridge pickup. The loaded pickguard now fits well and has a bit of room to move.

As mentioned in my post above, I needed to widen the routes a bit so as to get the loaded pickguard to sit better. The main problem was the bridge pickup being a bit further towards the bridge compared to the stock guard.

In Spanish there is a saying "Estas cosas suelen pasar en las mejores familias" (these things tend to happen in the best of families). I have a Warmoth body and also one of their pickguards. In both cases they tell me they used vintage specs, but when vintage hardware they fault me for not purchasing everything from them. Par for the course with reasonably priced stuff, but I admit that I get a bit PO'd when it has a premium pricetag.

On the plus side, it looks like you have the template ready for the next build!
