    Arzi's first scratch build Tele

    Hi all

It's been a long time since I last wrote here and it's because I've been building my first scratch build and now that it's finished I couldn't help myself but post it here. This was a huge step for me and it has been very rewarding. I've been checking what you guys do on a regular basis and have seen some remarkable builds here. Here are the specs:

    Ash body (two piece)
    Maple neck
    Maple fretboard
Two carbon fibre strips to enforce the neck (3mm x 8mm)
    Srings thru the body
    Double action truss rod
Medium jumbo 18% nickel silver frets
Custom cut scratchplate from a blank
    Wilkinson EZ-Lok tuners
    Wilkinson compensated bridge
Q Pickups Tele pickup set (ALnico 5 hand made)
    500K pots
    .047 capacitor
    Vintage type push back wiring
4-way switch (classic tele + series)
Surface treated with a power drill and a nylon brush to deepen the grain then water based stain sanded to liking and Tru Oil surface (stain only black color once put on before sanding and neck stained wit dark gray + sanding)
    burned decal and logo
    Roller string trees
    Strap locks
    10-46 D'Addario strings
    Vintage type jack
    Bone nut
    12" radius fretboard
Abalone dots and black plastic side dots
    Frets leveled and polished

The neck is so straight that even after putting the strings on it didn't give me relief until I adjusted the truss rod. Action is 1,5-1,75mm except on the low E which is 2mm. Sounds great and plays great. This has been by far the best result I've had when it comes to playability.

Now I'm building two basses of my own design from domestic woods - excited to see if they play well too.

Thanks to all of you and keep building. And don't be afraid to experiment. This forum has sooo much knowledge and innovation that at least I keep learning all the time.

That's some stunning work Arzi! Did you have to glue in the Carbon fibre rods or are they just a tight fit?

    Hi and thanks

They were pretty tight fit but I still used Titebond to fill any gaps when I put them in. Also sanded the top so they are flush for sure.

Some are for the fibres and some don't feel they're necessary but in Finland the humidity changes between 20% and 80% (even when it's not raining) and temperature between -25 to +25 celsius so fibres can help with the neck not living so much between seasons. Plus I think I could change heavier strings on with no adjusting the truss rod. The neck is so strong now.

Yeah, I remember how much it changes between the winter, Spring and Summer. Its pretty stark. I was looking at this for another project I have going, I want to e-inforce the neck without having to make it too heavy and cumbersome.

And I thought your Barncaster looked great but you have done an even better job with this one.
