    Gday

Hi all, just Registered today but I have been lurking for a short while.
I am in Brisbane and a keen Bass beginner.

I am in the process of completing an IB-5 and I think I have bit off more than I can chew with my rudimentary soldering skills.
At present I have everything soldered but all I get is what I think is a solid tone ground hum so I am not sure what is going on there.
I see that there is a recommendation in another thread to get an active Belcat harness so I may go that way if I can't trouble shoot the issue.

    Hi and welcome Gloucestre.

A constant hum is often when the live and ground wires are the wrong way around on the jack socket. If you post a picture of the soldering it would make it easier to spot minor errors.
    PitBull Builds: FVB-4, LP-1SS, FBM-1, AG-2, TB-4, SSCM-1, TLA-1,TL-1TB, STA-1HT, DSCM-1 Truckster, ST-1, STA-1, MBM-1, MBM custom, GHR-1 (Resonator).

Scratch Builds: Pine Explorer, Axe Bass, Mr Scary, Scratchy Tele's.

The little voices in my head keep telling me "build more guitars"

I quickly reversed the connection without soldering but with contact and I get the same hum and pop, I also get one with just the jack (ie no connection)
