Thread: Very simple question (neck handle)

    Very simple question (neck handle)

I am getting close to spraying some sealer on a leather dyed ash body (not that it matters much for this question).

I often see temporary handles made by securing a scrap board or stick of some kind where the neck would bolt on. How are you guys acutally doing that? Are you driving a screw into the body, or using the holes that will hold the neck?
I am a little hestitent to drive a screw and make a hole where there isn't intended to be one. But that sure looks like the way most guy on many of the videos online seem to do it....

I hope the question makes sense. How do you attach a temporary handle in place of the neck?

    Thanks.

My "lollypop sticks" have 2 screws which are screwed into the inside of the neck pocket. For the set neck single cut guitars I have done the lollypop stick screws are angled into the top shoulder from inside the neck pocket.

I have slightly rebated the sticks around the section at the edge of the neck pocket so that I can get stain or finish all the way around the edges.

I usually use a vice (on a saw-horse) to hold the stick (and guitar) in place during the application of the finish, but at work I have cut a hook shape onto the stick so that the guitars can hang from a clothes rack.
