Hello Guys
I live in Vietnam and have a Strat' kit coming soon. Tru oil is unavailable here in Vietnam so I would welcome some suggestions as to a good generic alternative.
TIA
James

Hi and welcome James.
A number of forum members make their own "truoil". I have not tried this. There are recipes online which say 3 parts turpentine (mineral spirits), 2 parts polyurethane varnish, 1 part boiled linseed oil (BLO). (Another recipe (from Dozymuppet (I think)) was only 50% turpentine and 50% poly).
In Oz the company Feast and Watson do a "Wipe on poly" which is available through hardware stores. I have used this for one guitar - but I do not think it is as easy to use as tru-oil.
Does it have to be a wipe-on finish? Most furniture finishes (oils ect) could be OK. Or, what about a spray can varnish.
