Thread: Problem with pickup rings

    Question Problem with pickup rings

I recently got an IB-7 kit, but the pickup rings I got on the pickups are slanted, which makes the bridge pickup ring hit the string when the floating tremolo bridge is level with the body. Should I sand the rings down? or would it just be easier to buy new ones?

    Hi whwd,

I have not done this kit, but looking at the photo gallery, the first example seems to show flat rings.

It should be easy enough to sand them down a bit using a flat surface. I would try sanding before buying new ones - if the sanding does not work then buy some flat ones.

    However, before sanding:

On my MBM-1 kit, which has a slightly angled neck compared to the body, the pick-up surrounds are angled! Does the neck on the IB-7 sit flat to the body, or is it angled? I would assume if the neck sits angled to the body the bridge may be raised off the body and the slanted rings will work?

Also, are the two surrounds the same height? On the MBM-1 kit they are different heights!

    Additional:

Looking at the IB-1 photos at https://www.buildyourownguitar.com.a...l=1#post222117.

It looks like the surrounds are angled and the bridge is slightly elevated above the body!
