Testing out the hardware and strings. If going for a 30" scale Bass VI, then D'Adarrio EXL156 is a set that will fit the supplied machine heads.
Hi BG, scratch plate looks very pink in that shot. Maybe the lighting and contrast against dark green, but still looks more pinkish than red to me.
Cheers, Waz
Spanky! What’s your take on the pickup positions? Would you consider spreading them out more if you were to make another?
Now the replacement white pearloid has arrived I've traced out a redesigned plate. I'll have to rout out a bit more room on the body but the pickup spread will be more effective methinks.
Rough shaping of the new pickguard. Quite a way to go yet but we're getting there, and already the bling factor is strong.😀
Looking good Bass Guy.
Looks so much better than the pink one.
Agreed - looks a tonne better
Looking better already.
Test string-up of the Sterling. Pickups will be attended to on my return home.
Good news: intonation is spot on and the TOM bridge piece is large enough to accommodate 30" scale length. Also discovered that with a bit of coercion a 100 gauge E string fits in the machine head.
Bad news: vibrato unit is glitchy, and will require further tweaking. The temptation is to invest in a Bigsby-style unit down the track.
Also I'll probably need to shim the neck to correct the low E alignment. But I'll wait until I dress/replace the nut.
