I had enough contemplated using bamboo flooring laminated together to form a neck blank. Some of the finish on the thicker laminate panels for benchtops etc is actually really cool looking, so I may still have a go at this.....in about four more completed builds time.
Yellow lettering on a white background...argh! Been following these guys on facebook for a while, I like their aesthetic and their eco friendly attitude.
Interesting use of bamboo. In the HiFi/Audiophile scene, bamboo is used for equipment racks and isolation platforms due to supposed energy absorption and resonance control properties. I would have thought this the opposite of what you would want from a guitar body material, ie deadening.

Bamboo is extremely dense, which should make it great for an electric guitar. The ultimate sustainable wood in all senses of the term. I'd want to get an idea of the weight, though. With density usually goes weight.
At least in an electric you don't want the wood to vibrate. You want all the vibration in the string to stay in the string where the pickups can turn the mechanical energy into electrical signal. My guess is that a bamboo electric guitar will sustain like nobody's business.

Strictly speaking, bamboo is a grass, not a wood. [/pedant]
It's a very dense grass

It's got an IQ of 7.

Bamboo is good for cutting boards too and is surprisingly light weight.
I stand corrected. Waz is right. Looked it up and Bamboo has about the same density as basswood but is considerably harder. Light and stuff should make it great for guitars.

It is an intriguing possibilty, how would a bamboo fretboard feel? Inquiring minds want to know!
We have bamboo flooring in a unit where my wife's parents live. Great product and doesn't show signs of wearing. If contemplating a fret board buying a strip or scamming a sample floor board would be the way to go. Likewise for building a body as it comes in vj tongue & groove making it easier to join. Mind you, from memory the planks are probably about 13 mm thick so 3 layers would be required to do a body.

Probably would be O.K. as long it's not exposed to water.
Saxophone reeds have been made from bamboo for years...and as they are constantly exposed to moisture,
they don't last very long.
cheers, Mark.
Stick Enterprises have used bamboo in recent times for some models. Strikes me as a good material to work with.
This is the audiophile DIY favourite.
