Hi guys,
I just scored myself a nice all maple Telecaster neck from a guy who fitted a new Bone nut to my LP Studio guitar today, looks like I'm one step closer to building that replica 51 Tele I'm interested in, or, I could use it to build a second Tele, here's a pic so you can see what it looks like, it's a non-PBG neck cause on the back of the headstock is a clear plastic sticker that reads Andoer made In China:

Nice, do you need to modify that headstock shape...i dont know what a 51 looks like
neck looks good Doc, agree with Andy the headstock shape may need a small tweak
It may need a little bit of a tweak to get the headstock shape correct, I might wait till I buy a Telecaster body for it, the neck has already been pre-finished as far as I can tell, it feels like a clear satin finish, i do know that the nut has been cut so that the 1st fret action is a mile high so that definitely needs some re-working.Quote:

Hey Dedman, I think the Broadcasters had truss rods. Correct me if I'm wrong by all means. I know my buddy's early broadcaster certainly had one. But a lot of the early Esquires had no truss rod at all.

This it what happens. We then end up doing detective work lol. Supposedly all Broadcaster had truss rods 200 made until name was changed to NoCaster. I read this but again a lot of what's online you have to take with a pinch of salt. You know what they say we never stop learning.

Hey Doc think Andy means have a crack at a pine scratch body ? Have you ever used a router ?
A mate of mine has a Telecaster with a metallic blue body, I played it and really liked the twangy tone I heard, that's what inspired my interest in building a Telecaster from a kit, like the Stratocaster, the Fender Telecaster is great for lots of musical genres, not just Country and Western.

Hey Doc may not be suitable to use a router in a group of flats, they aren't the most quiet power tool. But if a mate has a workshop by all means have a crack !

Just watched a youtube video about the 51 Fender NoCaster, as turns out, the reason why Fender changed the name of the Broadcaster from Broadcaster to NoCaster, and then finally to Telecaster, was because Gretch sued Fender because of a copyright violation of the name "Broadcaster", Gretch had been manufacturing and selling a drum kit called the Broadcaster at the time Fender released the Broadcaster guitar.

Apparently Territory Housing have rules about Tenants doing any kind of work in the flats, and yeah there are rules about excessive noise, Territory Housing are going to be implementing some new rules based on a red card system, a tenant can earn up to 6 or more demerit points in a year for breaking the rules, and if they do, they face eviction, but if they don't earn 6 or more during the year the demerit points are wiped from the tenant's record the following year.Quote:

sure, sounds fair Doc. Just like driving demerit points, if you acrue 12 demerit points in a 3 year period you lose your license. You can lose 12 or more points for stupid stuff like excessive drink driving, hooning etc and on long weekends in WA the demerit points are doubled

I just remembered that I have a set of 6 vintage-style Strat tuners that would look good on my Tele neck, I managed to find two of them so I need to find the other four and the ferrules that go with them.
