ST1-M Mashup "Fang"

So... if you were following my JM1 Mashup thread where I used parts off an ST1-M kit to build a custom jazzmaster you might have been thinking "what about the ST part?"

wonder no more.... here's part II "Fang"

I've got some holes to fill and some new ones to make to fit the JM controls on.

I'm using a bunch of left over parts and things ive got laying around, theres no intention to make this one the standard definition of 'pretty'

Oh man I like it allready....but I have been known to do odd things like shoehorning a Gibson P90 into a Squire Stratocaster ;)

nice mods to the horns Mick, are you using a smaller pickguard from gluing blocks in the control cavity ?

Time to pull the JM-1 electrics out of their old pickguard and drop them into the place holder pickguard while I get all mad scientist on things

I laminated the control cover yesterday, still have to tidy it up a bit but I think it looks clean along with being recessed :)

I'm with you on the recessed control covers. This was the first ever effort I had with guitar body building in my teens, the only disappointments i had with it were some dubious shaping (See the variable fit gap, and the fact that the remnants i made it from were not big enough to allow for the centre laminate line to match up to the body.

Edit: this was my original FrankenWashie, (Washburn MG42 Neck with ibanez soloist style custom body) which is currently being pulled apart to have some of the more glaringly obvious fit and set up issues addressed.

@ Mick what's the trem cover timber ? looks great recessed

Cheers man, yeah it's just some 0.5mm European maple... it actually matches the tone of the basswood pretty well :)

@Wokkaboy, the controls are the little section at bottom left, the bulk of the cover is the rear entry of the PUPs. At the time I didn't want to have two covers, in retrospect it probably would have been easier to do it as separate pieces.

Fang got some colour today :)

also shot some poly on the neck so im slowly creeping along on the build.

Mick you love torturing the forum - shot colour on the axe and the pic is in black and white !

That's not the first time I've been called a tease hahaha ;)

Well we can see it's a solid colour, and it's not black, nor white. It's a mystery mid-tone colour!

Well, that makes two colours off the list..... So if we simplify it to just RGB based values for colour then we have another odd 16,799,998 to go!

The body contrasts well with the background :D

Nice job on this axe Mick. Looking forward to the final reveal! Same here with the garden, now all natives and dusty lawn..

The first time I spent money on this build was for a 3 way toggle switch... which turned up today so I gots to doing some wiring!

simple controls for this one, a volume for each pickup and a 3 way switch, no useless tone knobs ;) haha

looks good Mick, those switches are nice.

Is anyone else really hanging for a colour shot here? You know its going to be a speccy, and the suspense is killing me!

I'm guessing its a nice 80% grey
