Roller bridges any good?

People of the forum,
greetings once more,

is it worth upgrading the bridge on an LP-1 kit?

are roller bridges worth the hype?

is there a better option?

Is it worth it? I guess. Is there a better option? There is always a better option. The limit is how much you're willing to spend.

If you palm mute regularly, they are a damn sight more comfortable on the hand than a regular TOM. I've used them and not found any obvious drawbacks, so if they cut down on string breakage at all (fewer sharp edges has got to be a good thing there) that's a win/win situation in my opinion.

I'm working on a old Maton archtop at the moment with a high end Schaller STM roller bridge (retrofitted of course) and it is the tits.

Also roller bridges are the biz when used with Bigsby type trems etc and I reckon they give a more stable tuning (IMHO)

Don't get a cheap one. You need the rollers to have no side to side movement that can suck up the string vibrations. They are only relevant when you are using a whammy of some sort.

I agree with both Pabs and DB. If you can get one by a respectable company they are the shiz!

She's had a tough life, but sounds quite sweet and was found at a garage sale for $30 apparently.

So the schaller would fit an LP-1 ?

I don't see why not. Depends on the dimensions of the bushes that will come with it, might need to mod slightly.
