I'm about to start building my first guitar, I'm not sure whether to be excited or nervous. I'm 14 years old and hope that this will expand my knowledge on how the inside of a guitar works.Here is the kit before I start!

The colour will be an emerald green wudtone finish
Before I continue with sanding, I want to experiment with designs for the head stock, here are the ones I narrowed it down to.

welcome to the forum Jacob, don't think I've seen one of these kits built. Great choice and should look awesome in emerald green. A tip I wouldn't sand past about 320 grit paper or the surface won't have enough 'tooth' for the wudtone to soak into.
Looks nice the alder body.
If you are new to soldering/electronics you may need some help this will be a Gibson style wiring diagram with 2 volume, 2 tone and 3 way switch but don't sweat about that.
I'd recommend you do a mock build to see how the neck fits in the neck pocket and have a read of the 'how to build' thread on the forum.
Your headstock shapes look good but I'd think about a tele shaped headstock may suit it more, google image tele headstock. Thats only a suggestion totally up to you what shape you come up with
Welcome Jacob! Looks like a great kit you've got yourself there - it should come up a treat. Just take your time and you'll end up with a great result! Looking forward to seeing your build develop.

Using the emerald green on one of my builds and I can say it is one sexy colour. Remember to ask questions if you need as the guys here are a wealth of knowledge.
Awesome guitar choice, echo what Wokka said about the tele headstock. otherwise they just look 'odd'.....but don't tell Keith Urban that! :)
@Wokka,@Gavin1393. Sorry guys,but I have to disagree. The standard for a tele deluxe is a strat headstock, which I think looks great.

Pablo, you are correct. I was thinking this was the custom which did have the tele headstock. The Delux did indeed have the Strat headstock.
i think a normal tele headstock would still look better though
Total personal preference, but I think any of these designs will look rad. :)
Agreed Pabs!, Whatever design you settle on it's gonna be a real sweet kit, take your time and ask heaps of questions.

Thanks everyone for the advice, I agree that the headstock should also reflect the body, I have already started with the deep colour coat and have hung it up to dry for a few days.
I will keep you posted and ask if I'm in need of help,

Hey Jacob, That is going to look AWESOME. What a very exciting start to a build. I did like the middle headstock shape. It has a uniqueness to it. Building your own guitar will give you a lot of confidence with the workings of a guitar, and you won't be able to stop smiling when you play it.
I'm looking forward to the rest of the build and don't forget about the guitar of the month contest when you get her all done.

Yeah, but they were worse because they were the extra large CBS Strat headstocks, instead of the smaller pre & post CBS headstocks.Quote:

yep absolutely. i just cant get on with the extra large CBS strat headstocks im afraid, much prefer the normal and tele ones.

I have just finished the 3rd base coat and hung it up to dry, no need for a picture I don't think, as I just posted one of after the second coat.

I used a Telecaster Deluxe during the 80's and personally it always felt a bit weird with the large head-stock (along with its medium jumbo frets). It was a great axe though.

I have put on the fourth base coat, any suggestions on how many base coats I should do? Should I just keep going until it's all used up?

Just go until you're happy with it. No real need to put the whole lot on.
I've put a fifth base coat on. I think I will do one more after it dries which will pretty much use it all up anyways. I'm really happy with how it's looking so far. After this I need to put on the coat of silver highlights and the top coats.

We have finished applying all of the top coats and we are waiting a week to buff it up with printer paper. Meanwhile I decided on a headstock and we cut it out yesterday, we still need to sand it but the overall shape is there. Next up: wiring!

I am also a little envious of that drill press. Wish I had that in my workshop.
