PBG-1 (I think?)

I bought this about three years ago, and never got around to finishing it. I loved the look of this design. I simply could not decide on a finish for it, and had sprayed it and even glued gold foil to it to see what i liked!
So, entering the third month of lockdown, it has come off the shelf and I decided the other day to sand it back and clearcoat it with spray Cabot poly. I'm glad I did, it has come up a treat.
I can't remember the model, I know it is a Pitbull unique design, I think it was called a PBG-1 )and the PBG-2 was the same with a Floyd Rose?) I'm sure someone can help me out there.
Anyway, 2 octave neck and mahogany neck and body. What was I thinking with the paint idea?!

Plans are to use all the kit parts, except orange caps and bone nut, that i have in the bag of parts. I bought the gold hardware option too, score!

That's great! I love the shape. I think it has a bit of a Music Man vibe.

If they still offered that style, I'd have to really consider it. (I'm bored with strats & teles atm - not playing them, just building them!)

Well slowly getting it together. The other mod from stock kit is a set of Marshall knobs. I used one for the volume on the TLA with the amp - for the built in amp volume. here's another 4, still got 5 left!

Those knobs suit the body colour and gold hardware perfectly. If the neck is a rosewood fretboard, it will really pull everything together nicely. (IMHO :o)

But do they go up to 11?

It looks really nice.

I can only imagine that either the factory stopped doing that style or they didn't shift quickly enough. Or with the Dedman-designed Pit Bull kit, maybe they felt that was enough of the more unique shapes.

Thank you! I have a few dust specks in the gloss finish that I'll have to polish out, but I'm happy to keep assembling as they are not near any components. Did some soldering last night, doing a standard LP wiring setup using all the stock bits except the orange caps. There's something quietly zen-like in careful soldering, or there was until the end of the iron fell off and burnt my leg.

Yep, the gold knobs go well! Looks great.

Well this one went together really easily. The only issue was the heel of the neck that was not quite flat, so I needed to use a shim at the end. This made the action correct with the bridge.
Still needs a final setup and I haven't fitted the truss rod cover yet either, I might find a timber one to keep it all wooden.
It plays nicely, and the pickups sound good through my amp. Fitted a brand new set of strings out of the packet, and they were rusty! still, will give it a final fettle and then put some new ones on...

The lockdown helps! One late night soldering was the only heavy lifting I needed to do here.
And to be fair, I had already done the grain filler and sanding years ago, and had all the bits in the bag too.
I’m super happy with the simplicity of it. Still got the final setup and messing around to do, but it already has the feel of an instrument that won’t need much.
It’s a lovely guitar to play, light and well balanced, shame they don’t offer them any more

Yeah, I really like the shape and very similar to a design I have in my head for a semi-scratch build. Except mine would be a 25-1/2" scale and 6 in-line headstock (a quasi Music Man style).

The design’s only real drawback is that its cutout doesn’t allow you to make the most of having 24 frets. I’m sure you can modify your playing technique to stretch up there, in the way LP players have to stretch to get to the upper frets, but it’s always nice when you can just keep on playing in the high registers without thinking about it.

But there's nothing stopping a bit of body modification…

Well the lovely case I ordered from Pitbull arrived today, and it’s a perfect fit. These cases are awesome value, and the design of the insides seems to have changed a little bit.
Ordered a timber truss rod cover, and still need to do the final setup and fettling. There’s no rush, it sat on a shelf part finished for 3 years!
Also needs a buff and polish, at least the edges where there’s overspray. Probably should have done that before assembling, but there u go, the new strings are rusty so when I replace them I’ll do a partial strip to polish
