Can't resist a bargain. $50 off for a tiny chip on the edge of neck pock. I'm juggling blue vs orange dye job. I have some Fender WRHB knockoffs to fit, which are going to get FeCrCo threaded rod magnets. I have PB-style blocks for the neck. Wanted one for ages, but too $$$ for me.

Really lucky to just have a couple of glue spots which sanded off easily. Very impressive fit in this kit. Accurate lineup.

If you don't mind me asking - where'd you source the rod magnets, and what was the cost?
Here's the ebay listing - Philadelphia luthier also has them on their website to buy direct. One of the guys on the TDPRI Tele board actually reconstructed the bobbins and rods, it cost a packet because he had to get a whole heap of Cunife magnets made up. They sold out a few years ago. He experimentally had some different rods made up, and said Alnico 2 has very similar characteristics to Cunife.Quote:

My next project after this one, I have the body on order from PBG, is a Firebird VII which will have a Maestro long vibrola. Those pickups are tricky - but I found a mob selling a FB clone with 7.2 kohm wind, with ceramic blades. I'm getting some Alnico 2 blades from Stewmac to replace them with. Hopefully they'll end up somewhere in the ballpark. The originals were 6,6kohm. The alnico blade inside the bobbin is what gives them their unique sound.
The new Firebird pickups are nothing like the old shrill but warm sound.

Fifth coat of FW wipe on. Very happy with this. I had a fourth coat blooper (don't apply in low light after too many wines 🥴) light sand and all good. With a light buff it'll be like a bought one...

Am I right that the scale length on the FS is 24 3/4
Which is different to the Squire Starcaster being 25 1/2
Did you need to cut out the front pick up hole a little on the bridge side to get a couple of extra millimeters ?
Yes it's a Gibson scale length. No, the pickup just slots in neatly.
I see there was another version of this kit that had a Fender scale length.

That's Lovely. I have ordered a FS-1 kit myself today. It is my second build. So have started to looks at diarys of FS-1 makers. Mine comes with trapeze tail bridge. I want to upgrade to a Bigsby or Top mount tremolo system. May I know If there enough centre block wood to hold it?. I am worried about the tremolo coming off after I string the guitar.
And may I know what brand orange stain is that?
