Hey wokkaboy,
Cheers for that I'll check them out now.

Ok so I just sanded the side and back of the body with 180 grit.
Well I would just like to say a big thank you to wokkaboy for the link above and gavin1393 for doing some excellent videos.
My sanding has improved so much.
Cheers,
Alkay.
no worries Alkay, glad you got something out of the videos and your technique has improved
Hey wokkaboy,
Those videos were so helpful, I'm so surprised how good I did the sanding with the sides and back. Anyway lesson learned with the face. I now know what to do (DB gave good advice on my other build I am about to start).
So here it is at present(this is the one with the neck issues and way too much ink with the timbermate):

Forgot to mention. That was with the 2:1 mix of cedar and water.
I thought it wasn't dark enough so while it was still wet I put more coats on.
To the eye I still want it darker but I'll let it dry overnight and see.
Hi again, so it's been a few days but here's an update:

Hey Wokka, I'm getting there I think, but the photo's don't show it. I'm really happy with this one so far.
This site is full of info, it's difficult to find a sanding and finishing technique on the neck so if you could share a link that would be great. I did naughty oil on my last one and that was difficult to play.
Would a wax finish work?
Hi Alkay, the body is looking good. Sanding the neck don't think there are any video's or tutorials. It's pretty straight forward. Once the headstock shape has been cut sand the headstock face top to bottom with the grain. Sand the sides as you would sand the body sides. Sand the back of the headstock face same as the front - top to bottom with the grain. Sand the back of the neck from headstock to heel and I don't use a sanding block - cup the sandpaper in your hand and hold it in the shape of the neck and sand HS to heel. I start at 120 grit if it is rough, or usually 180 grit is ok and go through to about 400 grit.
Wax wouldn't be very durable for the neck so I suggest a Dingotone neck kit or use whatever you are using for clear coats on the body. I found naughty oil on necks work very well. Maybe with your other kit give the neck a good polish and it should play pretty slick.
Good luck !
Looking good Alkay.
Just wondering what hardware you have got as Cream PUP surrounds and Scratch Plate (if you even bother with one) would blend well with those tones as would Gold hardware but Chrome would still be OK if that is all you have got and not keen to spend the extra bucks.
Edit....just scrolled back and noticed Black Hardware and that should look good too.
Hi wokka and waz,
Yes I'm using black hardware but I'm not using the scratch plate on this build.
I've sanded and stained the neck. I'm fairly happy with the results. I went from 180, 240, 320, 400, 800, 1200. I have some left over oil I'll use first and I'll give the dingotone a go on my next kit if I run out.
The conductive shielding paint should come in the mail soon. I also got a multimeter in the mail the other day.
I am a bit worried about the initial neck problems I had at the start of this build but I will revisit that after the soldering. That part is going to be interesting but I will keep you guys posted.
Anyway, here's a picture of the neck:
