Not sure if it was dumb luck but height wise the control plate was pretty close to flush when I cut it so i knew how much room I had to work with as far as the magnet holes went.

So I got the back edges all rolled nice today and did and heap of sanding. I'll seal the whole thing, give a final sand then it's time to think about some colour for the top.
