Okay, small update on this things, I'm just putting in some shielding then I have to wire it up, I've been slack I know, I know!
Good stuff Kurt. On the home stretch now. Presume clear coats are done and the neck is glued?
Clear coats are done yes, was waiting until after the wiring was finished to glue the neck in, but was thinking about it, the neck pickup should be pushed right up against the neck right? Meaning the neck had to be glued first?
yeah Kurt I glue the neck before screwing the pups in and doing the wiring. Means you can mount the neck pup flush with the end of the fingerboard.
A tip I used to forget is run the 4 switch wires to the control cavity before you put the pups in !
Thanks woks! Should be glueing the neck in today, any last minute tips for me? As well as your luck! I think I'm going to need it haha.
On another note, have just finished sorting out details with Andy for a vinyl headstock logo, will post pictures when it arrives.
Hey Kurt, before you glue the neck do a mock build with the neck clamped and put both E strings on. I use a thin piece of scap wood between the clamp and fingerboard so the strings won't touch the clamp/wood. Presume the clear coats are finished and you can knock the bridge posts in so you can do this ? Don't forget to run the earth wire to the control cavity, make sure plenty of bare wire touches the tailpiece post. Check the string offset of the fingerboard and a rough idea of the string action so when the bridge is in the lowest position the strings should be touching the 22nd fret. When you do the mock build put the neck pup in the cavity to make sure it fits ok.
Another really good tip is to tape off all the areas around the neck joint so when glue oozes out it will protect the finish.
Glue all the surfaces that make contact with the neck heel/tenon and pocket. Clamp for at least 24 hours. Use titebond glue is the best.
Good luck !
Okay, another update, neck is glued, wiring is done and works a charm. Just have to screw everything in and do a setup basically ^.^ pictures up later! Yeeew!
Hope your missus likes her new guitar.
