Tough trying to make decisions without being able to hear what they may sound like and therefore able to weigh up the cost vs benefit vs effort involved.
I reckon your simplified plan will work out fine and you can always revisit things later on if you become tempted to explore what more those PUP's might have to offer.

Weirdy
in that diagram it showed a push pull to give the 7th option of "everything on". I'm hoping this will work with just a single push pull volume

good stuff Dedman, I put a Kent Armstrong single blade in a tele bridge and it's pretty hot
-
It's going to require delicate surgery to fit in the route (neck). I'm hoping I can undercut with chisel and dremel, it's not much that needs to be removed
-
you mean the neck pup cavity needs enlarging ?
I'd use the dremel first, chisels can end up in tears !
-
it's only a bee's dick that it needs to open up, if possible I don't want to touch it up the top as I don't intend running mounting rings I'm not real sure my dremel bits are long enough to under cut. I do have some exacto hand chisels usually used with balsa and crafty stuff that are razor sharp that should be able to shave 1/2mm off toward the bottom.

sounds good Dedman, go real easy anywhere near the veneer
