I can connect with that!

Had another look at the run this morning and it looks like it will e a fairly easy recovery, still a major annoyance that is has to be done though
Yes I have the same frustration on the Cliche LP head stock at the moment. It's annoying isn't it?

hang in there - there is a great guitar at the end of this
Yep, I think we can all relate to runs or drip marks appearing out of nowhere at the most inappropriate time. I'm suffering from this curse on the current build too.
The Dog and I have an uneasy and undeclared truce, sanded the offending spot back to primer and now three coats of black.
I'll hit it with the first coat of clear this afternoon and another two tomorrow if the weather stays good.
The truce has held, black & satin clear both done.
Next big butt clenching challenge is the burst, planning to airbrush acrylic black
What clear are you using Dave?
Pictures, pictures we need pictures.. I can't wait to see this project completed..
As requested, but in reality not much to see.
Burst still to be done and the binding scraped, I couldn't find pinstriping tape anywhere but did find a fine masking tape at "that place" that has done a pretty good job.
The top was masked off with greasproof paper and normal masking tape before the binding was masked off so there was no over spray onto the top.
Had planned to break out the airbrush today but "the boss" has suggested I might like to do some work on the weekender :(

Note: the white spots that appear on the back when enlarged are definitely not on there so it was either something on the lens or a PB oddity
Hi Dave, I reckon the top looks just fine and if mine wouldn't fuss about doing a burst.
It does look good Waz but there are some very small patches of Black Stump that got through the CG that the burst will cover.
Definitely passes the 3 metre test as it is, I'll give the airbrush a run on some pine that has CG on it and if I'm happy and confident I'll push on with the burst, otherwise it will be what it is
Cool, hope it stops giving you grief.
Well you have to fight with a Tele to make it sing and it is obvious you have to fight to build the buggers too
Well best you keep on punching away then.
Had a bit of a play with the airbrush today and I'm pretty happy with the outcome, obviously need to flat it off and feather the burst edge a bit more before clear coat but at least it's done

burst is looking good, makes that rich golden top hard to stop looking at, so nice!
Thanks Guv.
Passes the 3 metre test ;)
There are a few very small lumps in the stain that I have to flat off and also work the perimeter of the burst to soften it a bit but in reality is not as harsh and defined as it looks in the pic.
I'll hit it with the mesh pads on Monday and then the first of the clear coats unless it needs touching up anywhere, unfortunately it's unlikely to be finished before some time in October because we are out of here for a bit of a holiday away from the kids and grandies.
I have been reliably informed that there will be no guitars of any sort follow me home from Europe
That looks great Dave, just as if you saved it in the nick of time from a fire.
Hope you enjoy your holiday, even if you will be on a short leash haha!
Cheers, Waz
Yeah, the next step would have been solid black which I think would look pretty good with the gold hardware but very happy to have got through that drama.
When we were booking the trip we saved just on a gorilla in Greece and the first thing I said was I might look at guitars.
The look I got from the minister for war and finance and the travel agent made me cringe like a beaten puppy :D
Good work Dave. The birst gives a nice frame to the gold quilt. Enjoy your hols!
Hit it with the mesh pads today which flatted everything off nicely especially the CG stain but a couple of very small spots in the burst came through so the airbrush came out again for some touch up work, revisit again on Thursday and hopefully get a coat of clear on it
Gave the body a hit with the 3 finest mesh pads today and then broke out the Dingo Wax, it was like concrete.
Sat in the sun for an hour with the lid off and it softened enough to dig a bit out to put in a plastic milk bottle cap and microwave all up close to 1:40 in 20 second increments until it was soft enough to spread with difficulty.
Has come up rather nice though
good one DK, any pics please ? haven't seen photo's for months
haha ok no worries DK, where were you and was it a holiday ?
on the bright side the finish would have well cured as you said - just like the wax !
Yeah it was a holiday Woks, we flew into London and had a few days there, then off to Bruges, back to London -> Windemere -> Plymouth / Cornwall -> Skiathos -> Skopelous -> Venice -> Monte Carlo -> Arles -> Dijon ( river cruise up the Rhone ) -> TGV to Paris ( hit 297 kph ) -> home. ( 5 weeks in total )
Nearest I got to a music store was the Hardrock Cafe in Paris but we did have the Gypsy Kings entertain us one night on the cruise, they are incredible
Great trip. sounds awesome.
now back to building the Tuff Dog;)
A bit of a teaser

Still heaps of work to do, fettle the pickguard, set the nut, level the frets and then of course final assembly
nice one DK, looks great. Can't wait to see it completed with the hardware
That was quick Woks, do you live on here :D
haha nah, just had good timing mate !
Neck bolted on, tuners fitted and kit strings on.
The bone nut needs somewhere between 0.5 & 1mm taken off it to bring the strings down to an acceptable level, I knew this would be the case which is why the cheapies are on it at the moment.
Tomorrow I'll measure the string height on the CV Squier which has a wonderful action with feeler gauges and bring this one down to that level, then I'll have a look at the rest of the neck & bridge setup
Sounds like you can see the finish line on this one Dave.
Just stuck the feeler gauges under the strings and the nut has to come down by 1.2mm which is a hell of a lot of bone sanding
Not wrong!
