I think he is hot for the axe not so much the builder.
You have done such a great job you are just gonna have to get used to people drooling over the axe and not you haha.
Waz ....tellin' it like it is.....
Oops, hope I didn't hurt anyone's feelings.
It's a bit like being on a date with a stunner where all the attention is not coming your way, but what the heck, you're still enjoying being part of the side show.
Just jokes mate...I'm sure Zandit took it the same way.
Haha, It's all good Waz, I knew exactly how you meant it.
I don't mind standing in the background when I have a stunner like this in my hands!
As mainly a Bass player I'm used to being upstaged, mostly by flamboyant singers and lead guitarists.
Upgrades!!!! Upgrades!!!! Upgrades!!!!
Lolololol!!! Nothing too extravagant, just received some Orange drops from a friend who didn't need them anymore!
I'm not sure how they compare against the stock items in the kit, or even what they will do to the sound, but at least I can brag about an aftermarket upgrade!!!

Hate to break it to you Zandit, but those are 473 caps, meant to be paired with single coil pickups. These caps might lead to a muddier sound than desirable. Humbuckers are usually paired with 223 capacitors which allow more treble through to combat a humbucker's naturally duller tone.
PM me your address mate and I'll send you a pair of 223s
Stan = legend.
Gotta love this community and how everyone looks after each other.
Top effort fellas.
I had to get creative with hanging the guitar body today. I commandeered a kids teepee we had for when my niece comes to visit, and turned it into a makeshift hanger to allow it to dry after applying the first coat of clear finish on the back and sides.

I'm using the British Paints Clear Varnish as shown on the first page. Hopefully it will create a nice hard finish after enough coats that I can get a good polish to it. Probably not the best weather for this product today, but it has dried pretty well already. Will give it a few more days before adding the next coat.
Sweet tee pee guitar hanger!!!
Hey, it works!!!
There was no room in the garage thanks to the wifes car, besides, it's cold and damp out in the shed due to the weather, and thanks to the clothes dryer, the temperature is inconsistent. I had no room in the wardrobes, and there is no way the light fittings would handle the weight. It was my only option, and it won't be the only time I use it!! :p
C'mon Guys, this is getting ridiculous, why does my build thread always get knocked to the second page??!!
GIVE ME ATTENTION DAMMIT!!!! #needy......
Lmao!! OK, on a more serious note, the clear varnish is hardening up nicely, so I think a second coat can go on in the next couple of days, maybe even tomorrow night.
Photos are a little glarey, the best light is in the Kitchen, but everything is white, so it over does the photos.

The grain has taken on a bit of a crazed effect for some reason. It looks like the grain is sticking up to the naked eye, but it is really smooth. It may flatten out more with additional clear coats.

And just for the added comments it always gets, here's the top again!! This has had two coats of DT clear top coat so far.

thats about the same look as the back of my LP, I'm quite happy with that look.
This is going to look epic when its in one piece. How are you handling the waiting Zandit?
Haha, I'm not really!! I honestly can't see how people can put together a guitar in just a couple of weeks!
Hopefully I will be able to apply a second coat tonight. I want to pick up some foam brushes because the varnish does not go on very well with the rag method. It's a much thicker consistency than the stains.
I'll apply another top coat to the top as well after giving it a very light steel wool rub down.
Damn that splame is awesome, I could never get enough of that.
Yep, the standard of entrants each month is unbelievably good but never let that put you off as yours is worthy to be amongst any that have been entered so far this year.
Thanks Waz, again, most appreciated.
Just realised this build has already taken 3.5 months!!
I put on a second coat of clear on the back tonight. I also gave the back of the neck a light rub with 1200 and it is super smooth now. It will be interesting to see how it comes up after the second coat dries.
I also need to fix up a mistake on the front of the head stock. I wanted to clean up the finish a bit, so I used some 1200 wet and dry but didn't expect the marker pen I used for the logo to wipe away with 2 coats of clear over the top!
I'll need to touch it up tomorrow night. Not happy, it's my first real setback.

That's a quickie Z, EXA-1 is at 9 months already, 10 months if you include the agonising over how to start.
Not Happy Jan!!
Tried to touch up the head stock logo, and the marking pen decided to blow it's load all over the place!!
Back to square one.......

Hey buddy, maybe order some decal transfer paper, easily found on ebay, and use an ink jet or laser printer to print your logo.
One thing I figured out after doing a couple of decal transfers, and shall do on any future builds, is to print the logo in the middle of a large area so that you can trim it all back to the edge of the headstock thus avoiding any obvious tell tale signs.
Not that you should hide the beauty on this headstock but for others wanting a black background simply drop the logo in the middle of a black background and reverse it out in whatever colour you want remembering that white on the computer screen comes out clear on the transfer paper.
