Haha that's it Weirdy I'm up to 8x tables now lol
This was actually my attempt to get the kids rote learning them, apparently this is not the method now....

Nah, they all carry tablets or smart phones instead.
Received new tailpiece today from Realparts. Overnight!
Tasks in progress
Cleaning up the binding, then final TO polish coat. I'll then sort out frets/fretboard then prelim assembly less the electronics

good stuff Ponch that is looking very nice with the mini mock build. On the home stretch now mate !
lookin so fine!
Nice top Ponch. Is that a veneer or Basswood? Looks pretty flash if it is Basswood.
It's supposed to be 100% basswood ply (Adam has asked the question of the factory and that was their reply), though I have my doubts. It looks more like a birch layer to me (if it's not maple). It also feels tougher than basswood. It's probably a thicker layer than the standard PBG veneers, but maybe only 1mm thick, so it's still possible to sand through. But being a ply I think the glue used is different to and stronger than the veneer glue, so less danger of it coming loose if you use a water-based stain on it.
@waz - what Simon said. It doesn't look like basswood to me...... and certainly not soft like basswood in any way

Frets levelled & dressed, fretboard lemon oiled.
I had to remove quite a bit of material on some frets but nice and level now .
The truss rod worked a treat just a small 1/8th anticlockwise turn to straighten it out
I also rolled the edges of the fretboard with the shaft of a small screwdriver makes it feel nice in my hand
The body colour also looks a lot lighter and less yellow in real light

Really looking the business now dude. Cant wait to see this one finished and have a listen.
cheers,
Gav.
Getting closer.... just need to adjust the nut. Then electronics to follow. I'll then set up with decent set of strings
And... it works! Phew

Looking really nice. The action looks a bit on the high side (though it could simply be the camera angle). Can you get it low enough with that bridge?
Cheers Simon. Optical illusion it actually went the other way a bit (too low) but all sorted

Looks great! It's got a really nice vintage feel to it.
Thanks Chuck. Also a nice sound and I've forgotten how light hollow bodies are in the hand. My resident tester also commented on the weight and sound
Nice to get to the closing stages on this build after just clocking over a year! It was destined for the fire pit on more than one occasion.....

Looks so damn good, Ponch.
Its looking fantastic AO, Good luck getting it back from your test engineer.
Home stretch now buddy.
Just trying to imagine what tune the test engineer would have played?
Or maybe Taylor Swift given her age.
Justin Timberlake.....

wow, it's come up a treat Ponch
Home straight. Now I'm happy this axe will work and not become a wall hanging time to wrap things up. Prepping headstock for decal. Truss rod cover holes drilled. Nut adjusted. I've upgraded the bridge to all rosewood (I didn't want metal saddle pieces as I want a soft vintage jazz sound) and have some matching rosewood knobs. Electronic s tonight...
Sorry about the funky background colour it's a recycled pink yoga mat that now tops my workbench
The top bridge is the stock one

good stuff Ponch, it's always exciting getting to the best part of the build - plugging it in. Bridge looks good, should look awesome.
Those knobs look really cool.
Delicious.
Cheers Guys. Decal now on, I'll leave 24hrs to dry before top coating it (with spray on poly)
The kit supplied P90 literally fell apart and is unusable. Luckily I found a GFS P90 in my stash. I had to enlarge the pup hole slightly to accommodate it. There is a slight gap between the body and pup due to arch on top. I'll fashion up a spacer ring to help with this. The pup needs to be raised a bit towards the strings anyhow
And last job all holes enlarged for new pots and hole for earth drilled behind the tailpiece hinge

Nice logo Ponch. Good save & recovery through having a spare P90 on hand.
That decal is awesome! It has become a great build Andrew! Luckely you had another P90 at hand but how come that the stock PU fell apart?
Cheers Guys.
The decal is from Rothko & Frost (I had a bunch of them made up sometime back). It's based on the 'Les Paul Custom' sticker on Gibbo headstocks (the one that runs up the middle of the headstock) with the 'Custom' part cut off. It's a nice and delicate transfer with a gold shimmer.
The stock P90 - cable fell out, the base plate was very loose (screws couldn't be tightened & were damaged). I'm going to use the cover to fashion a spacer for the new one so all not lost!
Hi Andrew. Question about the bridge. The stock one has a deeper concave bottom than the new one you bought.
With my es2v ive noticed that mine also has a quite deep concave base. It doesn't sit neat on the body of the guitar.
Q. Is it possible to sand the stock bridge to fit more snugly to the body? Or would it flatten out as the strings apply downward pressure ?
What Gould you have done?
Ps. Loving your build.

Cheers Oli. I would think it's possible to sand the bridge base to fit the body contours. See this Stewmac tutorial. They use a jig but don't see why you cannot apply same technique without it
http://www.stewmac.com/How-To/Online..._archtops.html
You'd have to be careful not to take too much of the base of bridge away if string clearance is an issue

Wiring harness 90% complete. I'm putting final poly topcoats over headstock decal so if the moons and planets align final assembly this Sunday...

Nice solder job Ponch. Hope the planet's and moons align
'Tis ready for assembly tomorrow. Wiring is all in place, tested and awaiting the (frustrating...) task of threading through the body
I would have completed this evening but casting my mind back to my previous hollow build reminded me to put a small dab of glue on the grippy washer thingies that have a habit of dropping off inside the body during the process. So I'll wait until dry tomorrow
