Now that is a cool green machine
Headed to the workshop today to start assembling but i forgot to buy strings!!!! Allbi have is the set of 9's that came with the kit.
It's a holiday here so cant go out and buy strings today.
Going to use those for assembling and testibg i usually play on ernie ball slinky 010's but that's on my superstrats i was thinking of upping a gauge for the les paul. To get more tone out of the duncans, power slinky or skinny top heavy bottom, i'm sure i can get used to thel in no time.

Very VERY cool guitar man!! It looks awesome!!
I've got some questions for you if you don't mind?!
The inlays - did you take the black ones out or just 'deepened' them to fit the picks? Also what size punch did you use(my inlays also have to come out they're going orange)?
The paint on the headstock - My GF will be hand painting the body and the headstock on mine also, what paint did you guys use(I'm not oiling/staining mine where the paint is going only clear lacquer from a can)? I am thinking normal acrylic paint will be okay?
Thanx dude and happy building!
EDIT: Here's mine :D http://www.buildyourownguitar.com.au...ead.php?t=5744
Hey the black dots on my neck were approx. 5mm diameter so i punched out 6mm inlays from the guitar picks, i then put a piece of tape on my diamant router bit as a visual aid for depth.
The black dots are plastic so quite soft compared to the maple (cant speak for rosewood or ebony) so i found the easiest thing to do wasbremove the black pkastic to the desired depthvthen gently widen the hole a bit usong thebrotational force of the router (guide it don't fight it)
Once the hole is big enough that you can gently hammer the new inlay into it all you have to do is pry it out again i used a stanley knife blade point. Add some multi purpose (less is more) contact glue to the hole and hammer it back in.
Theb sand smooth and let the dust from the sanding fill any small cracks.
And most of all be very very patient dont try to rush it.

Working on assembly i didnt like how high the control knobs were sitting but i didnt have any washers so i fashioned my own[emoji14]many guitar picks are laying down their lives for this build.

Good idea. I have used an old Strat scratch plate as a donor for making washers to take up slack behind output jack plate socket holes as they are about 2-3 mm thick which seems just about right thickness most times.
Thz man, soldering is a go

Looks like you have got your hands full there.
Signing off and going to bed as it is late over here and will check in on your progress tomorrow night.
Im using wire to ground the pots because the lugs are too small to bend onto the pot. Whoch is a huge pain in my behind atm!

Got her finished and rougly set up, the nut slots need to be filed down i wonder if i can do that myself?
Electronics work great and the pickups sound like nothing ive ever had before. I'm surprised by the quality of the stock pots and tuners, the selector switch feels low end and the fastening nut thread doesnt fit very well.
I will tale the time to make better pictures and record a sample.

Such a cool looking guitar Joe. The handpainting has almost inspired me to get out the brushes! (its been about 3 years since I last painted anything). The maple neck really suits the build too. so cool. I understand what you say about 10's rather than 9's, but the Ernie Ball 9's are quite good. That being said I just snapped my high E
Nice! The maple board really pops with the green and gold. Love it!
Look damn fine dude! Well done!!
Looks amazing Joe. That maple fretboard with the green is inspired! Great job.
cheers,
Gav.
Looks good and glad you had a maple board as I reckon rosewood would have detracted and competed with the artwork.
