The pack of 7 (which is the only way they sell it) was only a bit more expensive than 1 tub of watered down 'Colortone' blue I have gotten elsewhere, so I figured it was a good deal. This lot should do me for, well, a f^*kton more guitars. Red, orange, blue, cedar, green, yellow and green black.
wow good deal Pabs, will be keen to see how they go. Do these stains need watering down or is that to be determined experimenting ?
Yep, when I've got a bit of spare time, experiments ahoy. Right now though, hating on end of financial year pretty hard.
It won't run out mate. I barely dented it on the top of my IB. Seriously choice stuff
Those are the same dyes Ive got. Work really well :)
Yeah, these are nice. Got close to what I want, but it's a touch too brown. Try again tomorrow with more red and no green.

nice colours you got there Pabs, keep experimenting
obviously U Beaut is more than meets the eye....
More adventures in colour mixing. This time I think I've got it.

Well, something I'm happy with anyway.
Decided to play around with the other colours for future reference.

I particularly like the yellow and the orange.
The neck joint was a bit sloppy, so I glued in some veneers to each side to tighten it up a bit.

Yeah, you could say that worked.

Passes the old Ormsby test. Snug as a bug.
Colour looks good, was that red with some blue?

I love the orange too. Veneers work a treat
Red looks pretty good man, what was your plans for clear coats?
The colour looks great Pablo! Kind of a wine red. Will look great on the EX-1
nice colour palette Pabs.
Looks like you nailed the deep red wine colour you are after !
Think I might have to order one of these dye sets, the amount of colours you can mix are almost endless.
Love that dark green would love to try that on a flame maple LP
Thanks fellas. Enjoying the hell out of this build.
@Andrew, Red with a bit of blue and a couple of drops of black. My recipe is written on the side there.
@Bargeloobs, Not 100% sure yet. Tru oil or acrylic. With the weather the way it is at the moment, tru oil might be the less frustrating option.
@Wokka, not a huge investment, I'm having tons of fun mixing and experimenting. :)
Looking good pabs, that Orange is rather nice isn't it. I think these stain kits would be rather handy indeed!
I think I might have talked Wokks into trying out some nitro, as I said to him, 3 days to lay down clear coats and I'm done. Obviously the nitro will still take weeks to cure properly but I can pick it up and handle it normally without fear of destroying the finish. It's just so easy this time of year, not to mention the satin looks fricken amazing.
I'm starting to sound a bit like a salesperson for Behlen but it really is magical shit:-)
How many cans do you go through each guitar? Trying to keep costs to an absolute minimum for this one, and i've already got a healthy supply of tru oil. But i'm keen to give it a go on my next build (because, of course, I'm already speccing for that).
Yeah fair enough. It's definitely not the cheapest solution with cans at around $25 each and then shipping ($20 from Melbourne to Bordertown in my case) which is gonna vary obviously.
I reckon if you were going satin clear, two cans would easily do a full guitar, whereas a gloss finish I'd be inclined to go 3 cans just to be on the safe side.
Bloody hell. Still want to give it a go, but goddamn man. Guess, I'm sorted for colours for a while, so I should be able to splash out a bit next time.
But, just once.........yeah, once.....
Do you have to wear one of these to spray this stuff? Joking aside I may also try this finish on my next axe.

I know, I know. It's shocking ain't it. It's a bitter irony that I have literally zero funding for these builds and yet choose the most expensive finish on the planet, it speaks volumes about how impatient a person I am, hehehe:-)
You can actually buy litre tins for not much more than 1 rattle can, I definitely need to invest in a decent spray gun for the compressor.
yeah I'll give it a crack on a future build Barge, you talked me into it like a used car salesman haha
I'll have to try the veneer inside neck cavity the IB5 fretless needs it whats the best place to get veneer guys.Colours looking good Pabs

Love the colour Pabs. Go another darker coat if you think it needs it
looks better already Craig
That's looking really good Pabs.
Thanks guys. Definitely lighter than I was expecting, but I'm happy with the result. I really wasn't sure as I was putting it on, half way through the top I was set to sand it all off and start again, but I figured, in for a penny etc. and pushed on. Glad I did, because after 2 coats it really came together. On to naughty oil.
Its evened out the grain looks great you after a deeper red Pabs
Looks good Pabs!
Looking sweet Pabs
