The last time i posted some pictures, i've sanded the body with steel whool to take off the oil.
3 days later, I add a 1st coat of water base colorless varnish, and then, everything went wrong!!

the weirdest thing was, the top of the body didn't react the same at all!!! nothing happened on this part. Weird!
i sanded it with the stell whool, and it ended not so bad, considering where I started

Ah fun with finishes! Looks like it’s coming good for you, it certainly seems to be evening out.

that's why i tried the varnish to fix it, and it looks like that eventually works.
I might have took off a little bit more when sanding, as well as a bit of the red on some parts. but that what happens with sanding a little bit hard, and I had to, because of the reaction of the varnish.
When I saw that I could fix my problem with the varnish, using steel whool between coats, I decided to add a second one 2 days later.
of course, it happened again, but a little bit less this time;still bad looking

Hard to know what caused the clear to react like that? Being water based might be part of the problem whilst using steel wool could be another as it is so hard to completely remove all of the fine steel sanding residue which often gets trapped in the finish coat. Wet sanding with 1200 or 1500 grit works best but only after the colour has a few coats down to act as a sealer.Quote:

Hopefully you still have some of the stain as it may need dry sanding that clear coat back, reapply stain colour, and then switch to a different clear top coat product. Practicing on scrap wood is often handy to see how things react or turn out and maybe that may help to see what product works best without having to keep sanding back the body and risk more damage or create more work to fix or get it lookong right.

This time, I was done with the varnish
I sanded it, take oof a little bit more of the red color on the sides, whitch were not really looking good.
guess what?.... I went back to oil to just to see if it can works. that was the last thing i wanted to try before, maybe considering to start it all again from th beginning.
I did it yesterday, that was looking good, this is magical for the wood grain!!
I went to see how it dries today, and it still looks pretty good to me. the top of the body was still a little greasy, so I'll wait before adding some more.
