I was going to sand down, glue the neck and paint on another coat of colour.
I really don't want to see any gaps where the neck connects to the cavity.
Woks, so your saying the clear coat will be enough to cover up the seam?
As long as you fix that loose cavity and scale length problem your seamless shouldn't bee too much of a worry because your neck should fit rather tight if there is any seam at all it should be rather small.
Also - how far out was the scale length measurement?
yay neck cavity repair day!
I ran around to a few stores looking for 0.6mm thin veneers but same old story. They don't stock anything that thin.
So I threw caution to the wind and decided to make my own.
Took out dad's wood plane (wihtout any idea how to use it) and destroyed a piece of pine.
Had to do a ton of shave to get shavings long and wide enough to be useful... and made a real mess.

Next took 3 shavings and laminated them together with everyone's favourite wood glue titebond as individual shavings were too thin
Clamped and waited for them to dry and cut to the neck cavity's size

Homemade veneers, ohhh yeah...

Then used some ultra high tech to apply pressure to the veneer against the cavity.
(I didn't want to use clamps as was worried pressure would dent the wood or paint job)
Welcome the sanding sponge pressure pusher thinggy
