He was still stoked! Wonder if I could enter this in for GOTM?

Non-Pit Bull so I'm afraid it's not eligible. But there's always the Non-Pit Bull Guitars GOTY competition.
However, it may not be at its best by January when the judging takes place.
So so slow in the construction front. My FIL is doing up a template on the laser cutter so I can route the perfect pup hole! I have all my dye and bits now to get her done! Once she's routed it'll be all hands on deck.. still slowly though
So! Uni break starts in 8 days! Planning on smashing this beast out in the time I have off which is about 3-4weeks! Here's hoping the weather stays dry so my layers of dye will dry!
All the best for good weather, smooth progress with the guitar and having a great break.
Thanks Simon, I'm really looking forward to it! So eager to get my hands dirty again!
I envy your study break Shazz. Look forward to watching you smash through the build!
Love the video btw - gunna start trawling trough the vids from your last build...
So, hiccup with the route template. Getting a new one done up tomorrow then I wil plunge that router in the body like there's no tomorrow! Then it's all systems go! Can start the body work 😁
Question for all the wiring gurus... how does one make a push/pull pot both volume and tone? I found a wiring diagram but just want to make sure it's right! Attachment 20176
That will work if you want it down for volume, up for tone. However, when in tone mode the volume will be full and in volume mode the tone fully off, so it doesn't 'hold' its settings. Also, that example is wired more for independent volumes like on a bass.
It all depends on how you want to use it and in what context with the rest of the SG's circuit.
Thanks for the Vid Shazz, I finally got around to watching it!. love that new kit feeling
Not with a push/pull, no, it works as one or the other and can't 'hold' setting once switched.
If you want volume and tone and to have the settings 'stay' in a single control your only practical option is a concentric pot. That would allow you to control both volume and tone but requires a stacked knob that typically has limited styles, so that option will depend on the style of knobs you want to use with the build.
Like I said it depends on how you want to incorporate it into the rest of your circuit as to what the best options would be.
Ahh I see.
All good, I'll just run it as normal with the push/pull pots. So I'll have 3 push pulls for each pickup then master vol. only thing I need to get is a 5 way selector. So I can run the pickups neck - neck and mid- mid - mid and bridge - bridge.
It's definitely going to test my wiring skills haha - keen though :)
Instead of a master volume you could have a vol for each pickup and a master tone. Another switch option would be a 6 pos Free-way toggle, bit pricey though.
Another great video Shazz. Looking forward to seeing what kind of finish you choose for this one.
cheers,
Gav.
Shaz, on my black strat I did a neck -neck and mid- mid - mid and bridge - bridge. with a 5 way then added a push pull that added mid to postions 2 and 4 for 'everything on.
My Gretch has a normal 3 way and another toggle that adds mid to where ever you are on the 3 way
I'm going to use the 6 way freeway toggle switch on my 3x pup SG as I wanted to keep the original look.
About $60 from Stewmac I think.
You can get rotary 5 or 6 ways too that are cheaper.

Thanks Gav! Loving being back! Just gotta add the backing track to my newest vid and it'll be up :)
Still deciding on the finish... def doing black edge to purple fade. Just not sure if I'm doing black back or faded back. And not sure if I'm gunna leave the neck natural or black or purple... haha
2nd vid bout to hit my page 😁 Will be working on the 3rd vid momentarily!!
Check out my 2nd video!!

Hi Shazz, bummer about the router biting more than it should have but as you said, the PUP's and mounting rings fully cover the new swimming pool. Good save & recovery.
Cheers, Waz
The video editor would have been working overtime to remove all the offensive language if it happened to me. You did well to remain fairly well composed for such an oops moment.
Yeah, routing is always that little bit nerve shredding. I've spent hours making specific templates to have the guide bearing shift or the bit dig in where it wasn't supposed to. Dammed frustrating. Great work and it's probably better you broke out those walls now, rather than later on when you had paint or finish on as well.

Hearing protection Shazz! Hearing protection!
Hey Shaz, glad the pup surrounds cover the swimming pool. The templates aren't really suitable for the job, if you line it up in the wrong position. You are better getting templates made up of the actual pup shape, that way you can line it up perfectly with marked outline where the cavity will be. Using a pattern following router bit of course.
Also get into the habit of waiting for the router bit to stop before you remove it from the workpiece. If you angle it slightly while the bit is spinning it can easily cut into wood that you don't want to be damaged/cut.
Also as Fretty says you should wear ear muffs.
Treat routers with the upmost respect.
EDIT also if the router base plate isn't a perfect circle which it probably isn't then when you angle the router slightly away from square that's probably why the cavity walls got torn out
Agree with everything Wokka says here. Need to add one thing though, don't try to cut at full depth in one pass. Many shallow passes will produce a much neater outcome. Also, if you are removing bulk material, drilling out with a spade or forstner bit is a good way to prep. That way the router doesn't have to work as hard and you put less stress on the surrounding material.
Loving the vids so far.
