Looking nice, wish we could get the ebony timbermate over here
looks good Andy, keep working the burst as you usually do and it will look excellent.
You're not going with a pre-amp ? No battery cavity.
Some wild grain patterns on the top plank that thankfully won't be hidden under any scratch or control plates.
Whats that kit Andy ? A hard Tail strat looks a bit different form the norm start? its starting to look the part are you heading towards a very light rubbed burst. I looking for a different kit to do next as i have done so many strats i need something different to do ill be following this build to see how it comes out, Looking pretty good so far
Thanks Phroz, yeah this is a Jazz Bass (Ash). I don't own a functioning Bass guitar and I always wanted to learn.
I did do a hardtail strat,...the build diary is somewhere.... love it, and I wired the bridge pup to a tone control..... great tweak.

what happened?!!
Sorry, I should clear up the vagueness of that post. I thought I'd like the Karajini red/black stump burst on my JBA, but no matter what light I put it in, I didn't like it.
Back to the drawing board, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to pop the grain and go DT natural.[emoji41]

Should look good natural.
I had to go hunting for this diary!
Got my Wilkinson bridge and dowelled up the headstock holes for redrilling to fit the grovershttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...0bdc79fcc2.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...1367ad7eb0.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...9b8742613c.jpg

How many pages deep was it?

Ha ha I cheated and searched my name to find it on Tapatalk!!!:p
Mate I am not a trades person.....but have been doing lots of research reading and you tube watching on veneers.
Wetting....or steaming your veneer prior to bending is essential to avoid tearing in the wood fibres. E.g. damping you veneer down.....pressing into shape against the headstock....use a round dowel and clamp to hold the shape.....allow to dry in situ.
Remove clamps.....apply glue and attach...clamp again....then trim to size and shape.
I don’t mean anything...just trying help.
Very true Ozz. I did steam it but not enough. anyway heaps of sanding to do in 40 degree heat
Hey BD, ha ha yeah I flip flopped on this one. I've gone ebony timbermate and black stump. I'm looking for a black and grainy finish. Maybe satin instead of gloss....we will see
I did what you want to do on my ash tele and found that the walnut timbermate went better (just my pref) with the colourless after testing it on scrap. It looks killer and was soooo worth it.
Here you go,

Lookin great so far, can't wait to see it all finished, bass is pretty easy to learn, and fun to play too.
Looking good Andy.
Using DT or TO for top coats?
Sent from my SM-A520F using Tapatalk
Ha Ha Waz. I'm actually going to try all DT neck and body right through to final coats. depending on how it looks the plan is to have a thin finish, probably satin rather than gloss

Just to give some indication of the patience it takes for dingotone (sometimes)
I applied this intensifying coat on 29 December 2018...it's nearly dry now. Only two more intensifying costs to go.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...e096a1b169.jpg

3 weeks later and during quite hot and stable temperature conditions......definitely can't rush a DT finish.

Hi Andy, using DT or TO for the top coats? Plenty of Ash contours to fill unless you plan to keep them as a feature.
Yeah Waz. I'm going for a DT finish and see how that goes. Thats the first final coat wet sanded with 1200 grit.
Makes sense now as it looked a bit dry for a fresh coat.
