Tony/DB what we need is a hardware/machinery shop that sells craft beer - now there's an idea !
We have discussed this in the past, Woks..
Remember we came to the conclusion that we would probably drink all the beer and end up going broke?
Another day at the office

haha yeah DB have to agree in writing it sounds like a cool idea, but in real life our trolleys would be full of toys and craft beer, especially if they had a few taps pouring in the shop !
Get it from my local independent guy, he often gets me in different designer beers, and knows i like the Trappist styles IPA's strong stouts umm lots of things haha.
sounds like your local beer shop has some tasty beers Tony.
enjoy dot com
Well i did some more work on the neck yesterday, but had to stop because beer got in the way ;)
Colour is starting to get just right

More work, have the neck stained how i want it now, still working on that heel but i think i have it sorted

Dragged out my 2 slabs of Ancient Kauri i have had in the shed for the last 10years, (geez it 45000 yrs old so 10 yrs dont matter), i am going to make tele bodies out of the stuff over winter, i will do it all by hand, the necks are undecided, the nuts i have here are woolly mammoth ivory 10,000-50,000 yrs old so it goes with the theme of the guitars, maybe get a pair of special necks made i dont know.

Dribbles and hyperventilates then starts foaming at the mouth..... Nice score on the Kauri Tony :)
It looks like a bushfire, i think i paid $120 for 2 slabs, it probably cost a bit more now.
This is where i got it mate

Heres the other piece.

I reckon it needs to sit in the rack for awhile, its been in a bog forever.
Back to the stain, a bit of cherry red shows the blemishes on the body but nothing like the back, i can cope with this easy, lots of sanding and tooling marks popping through.
I will go darker on this and may do a burst....... maybe
Attachment 8643
Big contrast between Top, sides and back. Liking the red on top and agree a little bit darker will look awesome.
Yeh at the moment there is, i didnt have much choice with the back. Sides are going to be black the top a much darker cherry fading to a black, i think
Sounds like a very traditional look for the top and hope it works out for you as planned.
Looking good now, the cherry to black sounds very nice
That's going to be an awesome looking top, Tony! A darker cherry will look great.
Is that just red stain so far on the front?
@wazkelly and stan thanks guys, hoping i can pull this one off, i have only ever shot a burst not dyed one.
@Swanny its just a bit of diluted colortone cherry red, a little trick i learnt on the back was if i to a light coat in shows up the flaws, then i can get at the glue and the sanding/machine marks and do some more filling then get stuck about the colour depth
Have these kits got more glue on the veneer than the PGB kits?
On the back it had plenty on the veneer, the front is pretty good, so at a guess about the same for the front PBG dont do a back i dont think, i dont know for sure. I just take my time, its all a learning curve even after all these years, and you dont really see it with the naked eye until you put some colour on it, the colour wont take where the glue is.
I might do a LP Junior from PBG when i clear up a bit of backlog and recover some $$$, i dont think i will bother with veneers anymore.
Tuners on the way from the U.S.A
2x sets Gotoh 3x3 Locking Tuners Cosmo Black
Tony aren't they available from an Australian store ?
Not at the price i get them Wok, i get 2 sets for the price of their 1.
really and posted all the way from USA, you must know a good supplier !
I have wholesale accounts all over the place, have done for 16years, i have an A.B.N and i am a guitar repairer, may as well use it :p haha
I dont just buy a set of tuners, i have 5 sets coming 2 for people and 1 for some for repairs and 2 for me, i have a few bridges and pickup winding parts in this order, and its still not that cheap with shipping, but cheaper than buying here.
good deal then Tony, sounds like you got plenty of jobs to do !
Not enough to pay the mortgage Wok, just close friends and friends of friends, a word of mouth thing.
With the snail pace and postage costs here in Oz, I quite often find it much cheaper to buy off shore.
It does annoy me, as I prefer to buy local but when it takes anywhere up to a week and a half to ship in Oz vs three or four days ex USA it really doesn't encourage me to buy local....
yeah there's something wrong if we can buy items from USA or overseas and can get the item posted quicker and cost less than an Australian store
Unless i need something yesterday, i dont buy in Aus, even with the $$ crapping out i can still get it quicker and cheaper, but there are some good Aussie suppliers and i often check them 1st, if i only wanted a bridge in a hurry, no use me spending $500 on an order of parts i dont really need.
On a side note PBG has probably the best deal i have seen on Grovers, if you buy them with a kit, great deal.
I guess if you live over east, postage service is ok...
Thing that p*sses me off is the rest of Oz loves our mining tax and gst contributions but conveniently forgets that we would like a decent postal service, just to name one of the many gripes we have over here...
So, in the end, I find I can get most things I need faster from Asia or the USA than I can from the eastern states.... Go figure...
Aus post overnight = four to five days....sometimes a week... Seems to me that AP love to take the express post payments and not deliver. I don't bother with express any more, seeing as it takes the same time as normal 'snail via Outer Mongolia with a holiday in Bali' mail....
DHL from the USA = three days max.
I have parcels arrive quicker from the U.S.A, than ones posted here in Melbourne sometimes, i never rely on Aus Post.
I was sending a guitar i built for a guy to WA who wanted it in a hurry so express it was, it cost $30 with a courier and was there in 2 days, Aus post wouldnt touch it. I sent an express satchel to Perth with 10 packs of strings in it, and it took 5 days.
Well i can finally finish this neck off, its been a labour of love this heel join, but i beat the bloody thing, smooth as a babies.
Now back to staining

Nice win on that heel, Tony.
So DB sounds like Australia Post are higher on your hate list than BGSFOS ?
Just bought off Ebay 2 sets of D'Addario XL150 electric 12 string sets for $19.80 a set, these are nice strings, i have played them before on my mates 12, the parts are starting to gather.

I was originally going to do the headstock black but i decided a 50/50 mix of red mahogany and water would work, should look ok once its dry.
Close to coating this neck with MinWax PolyU clear satin
