For this axe I'm using up some colortone. Red on the cap then a mix of red/red mahogany or red/black for sides (maybe burst around the edge but undecided)
Here's another pic of the cap now sanded back. There's a lot going on in the flame, definitely no pick guard on this one!
Andrew that is going to look fantastic with the red.
And here we go, with first pass of red dye
wow Andrew, that looks fantastic, got to be happy with that. Are you planning more red coats to get a deeper red ?
Yes, more coats to follow.. scored well with the flame cap, it's hectic! I seem to recall someone else in the forum mentioned these kits on particular had nice caps.
That's some nice flame, it's looking great after just that first coat. The factory definitely seems to have a thing for offsetting the cap's seam from the centreline on some of these SG-1F's, it's the same on one I'm working on. I wonder if it's due to the asymmetry of the shape and edge bevel so they skew the cap slightly to minimise waste.
I think you have it in one Scott - minimise waste
Great colour choice Andrew, this is going to be really cool
Whipped out the naughty oil this morning, first soak coat on.. Ta da up pops the flame!
Wow Andrew, looks awesome!
cheers,
Gav.
