Very very cool colour
still doing a couple of thin coats of TO a day.Neck is probably to the point of being done, a few little low spots on the top still need a slight rub back and a few more coats. It's possible this might be finished before the ES-5
oh Deddy, might be your best yet mate
I hope so Stan, I have 5 guitars and the JR-1 is my fave to play, the size, the complete lack of things to fiddle with just lets me concentrate on learning to play. I love my Gretsch but she is a big heavy beast compared to the Junior. I'm hoping the LP will fall right between.
Did a mock up today, I had just sanded it with 1000 W&D I think one more sand and one final coat of TO and its done. However I'm waiting on a black neck plate and back plastics due next week. Might get the wiring done later this week before final polish

Whoa!

mock build looking excellent Dedman, did the kit come with white switch/control covers ?
Assume that is damage to the veneer near the bum end. You rescued this build nicely, can't wait to see it buttoned up
came with Creamy/yellow coloured ones, I painted them, then dropped them and just like toast with jam, they landed sticky side down. :p so I said Phuket and bought some black ones :P
haha yeah 50/50 chance of it landing the right way up are really 10/90% chance !
black covers will suit the black hardware better and dark stain anyway
I think we will all be here one day!!

One day?? One day several years ago maybe....
haha good one Nitro and Frankie,
not many forumites here without GAS, Only a few builders on their first or 2nd build and they will have GAS in the not to distant future
Someone asked me why I needed so many, especially considering my playing level. Answer is simple, I really enjoy building them. Bonus is they don't require fuel, registration, insurance, ammo or a licence!
hhaha well said Dedman, yeah if there was a guitar rego I would be well broke by now !
I declare the clear coating done. Will let it harden for a couple of days , will do the wiring tomorrow or Saturday. Waiting on black neck plate so can't assemble yet.
sounds good Dedman, you tell us clear coats are done and no photos ?
put a chrome neck plate on temporarily to get it playing
na, didn't have the camera out. Next pics will show the hardware installed :)
Cant wait, awesome build dedman.
Esp for you...lol

NOOOOOOOOooooooooo!
haha yeah I got some skull shape volume/tone knobs, used to put them on my CBG's
I don't mind grungy lookin ones but once they have jewelled eyes and chrome plate I start to back away :P
I sure as hell don't have buckets of money, if I did there would be a pile of kits in the corner waiting to built :)
exactly, another form of canvas.
For me, building something, anything, is a cathartic experience, it keeps me sane.
Pretty much the same, i think by building it makes up for it... Kinda like if I cant be really good at playing at least I can be really good at building.. For me its research on guitars...I am a great researcher , not that you guys would know but I pretty much will research the guts out if anything.
I have found the same, particularly since hanging up the rugby boots (The full contact effort, I still play touch rugby else i will require GREATLY expanded belly cuts). I also have enjoyed the revising of skills taught me by my grandfather and others as a young bloke that I just don't get to use in my professional life.
When summer comes and the humidity and inability to breathe drives me back indoors I'll be back to 6hrs a day of lessons and practice and back to doing artwork and writing again until the weather cools off or I win lotto and get an air conditioned workshop :P
Hence the reason I want to get these builds finished in the next 6 weeks or so.
So how long will I be able to resist putting the neck on ? Black neck plate is due mid next week. She's wired and passes the tap test, tuners are on the headstock...................
if anyone has a switch plate with white writing on black and wants to swap for either gold on black or gold on cream/white let me know.
Attachment 13590
I have a few switchplates floating as I never use em, will have a look if I have white on black.
cheers! I had thought of getting some little stickers that said "Trouble" and "Riot"...maybe later.
That's looking great Dedman! Another option for the switch plate is to get a very fine silver marking pen and go over the top of the gold, but that could become messy.
Hi Dedman
Have only got the gold ones. So thinking similar to Zandit used a white marker let dry and gently rubbed off with 0000 steel wool.
Does matt the finish so just a rough smear of TO to give some shine. May be an option?
I think I'll just leave it off until I get some other stickers done and print a bunch of the Riot/Trouble ones :)
Leave it naked. It will look much better without.
thats starting to look very nice indeed Dedman love that quilt look...
thanks guys, for a factory second "rescue" I'm pretty happy with it, first time using TO as well, but not the last.
