How often does that happen?

first time for me, never had a bad one but usually at least one needs a tap or bit of sanding
Good to know, I have yet to even look at that on the EXA-1 as its been fighting me on finish, given what I put the FB through in stripping it and refitting and the subsequent re-working of the neck I don't hold out much hope for it not needing work.
wired the ES5 this afternoon, well, on the cardboard template anyway. Almost the same as the Jnr with a push pull to split the mini humbucker on the volume except this one has a tone pot as well.
good stuff Dedman sounds like you are a wiring and soldering guru by now ! Should be a fairly straight forward circuit. Will the larger push pull pot fit through the F hole or does it have to come through the pup cavity ?
I didn't try it in the F holeI can feed it all in the pick up hole :)
Not a guru I just have the link to http://www.guitarelectronics.com... find a diagram, print..... solder :)
bwhahha Franken you have a filthy mind mate !!
I fed the bait, was waitin to see who took it LOL
Deddy , you are a bad , bad , man, I like you
Again not much done today (giving the ink a few days to really dry as there are 6 coats on it) so I finished sanding down the new dots and the fret board, I haven't done the final polish on the frets as they are going to get tape residue on them when I mask up for the paint. I ordered some 1mm sheet brass from Ebay, decided to cut my head stock logo from it. Quite a few firsts for me on this build, first kit with a bound body, first burst attempt, first go at replacing fetboard dots , first hollow body, first build with a trapeze tail piece, now I'm deciding if I should try inlaying this brass or just round/bevel the edges and glue it on.
sounds good Dedman, well if you don't try things for the first time you won't learn new tricks. Think if you can inlay the copper lettering it will look much better. Should all come together as a really cool axe as you always do build !
I'm temped to make a plaque kinda thing to go in the tailpiece like Gibson used on some of their Artist models, but have yet to find a picture of the back showing how they are held on

wow that would be a cool touch Dedman, so your trapeze tailpiece has an area where you could fit a plaque ? I guess the plaque needs to be a snug fit and glue it in ?
These sort of touches are what judges of GOTM are looking for and always score bonus points
I have the same tail piece as in the pic, mines a Kluson. I'm wondering if there isn't just a channel in the sides it sits in and is held by spring pressure from the sides
well, there is tomorrows job set up! I'll do a test with a scrap of pine
not much happening, I painted the sides black yesterday and spent some time with different air brushes and needles/jets to work out what gave the best spray pattern for the burst ( worse than tuning SU carbs! )so once the weather clears (looks like rain here today) I'll be ready.
I'm not in any hurry as the brass to make the headstock logo wont get here till next week and I want to paint the neck at the same time as the body. Still got to try making that plaque thing too.
Hey Deddy, I might be able to help with the plaque. I have some incredibly strong transfer tape (very thin double sided tape, basically sheet glue) that will hold it in place securely rather than trying to cut a channel in the tailpiece.
thanks Pab, I'm waiting to hear back from a custom inlay guy as to if he can do the design I want to put on it, if he says yes I'll go ahead with it.
Alright, I can do laser engraving as well, if you need.
Bursty goodness. There is a few touch ups to do which I'll do when I paint the neck. The patchy areas are where the black has a bit of gloss and picked up the sun. The back needs a little more fade which I'll do when I do the neck. (The wind came up this morning)

nice job Dedman looks great, you must have masked the binding and the F hole binding ? Or have you scraped it clean ?
masked it :) Stuffed the body full of crumpled newspaper as well,, was a bit late tho as I'd spilt a bit of the timbermate in there already, not to worry, I'll print some gen u ine factory serial number stickers to go inside :P
Very cool. :)
oh well Dedman good tip for all other hollow body builders to fill the body with crumpled newspaper for the timbermate stage.
Sure your gen u ine factory stickers will look cool no doubt a few skulls on there !
You're a truly artist dedman...beautiful!
Looking good Dedman like the burst and colour

thanks guys , pretty happy so far :)
Brass sheet isn't due till next week so won't be doing anything more till then.
Might get a chance to play with the looper pedal I got recently
Burst looks great! Awesome job.
cheers,
Gav.
I've got a good feeling about this green black burst
Another masterpiece.
This guitar looks great Dedman. I have to wait till Christmas to unwrap my ES-5, but you have given me lots of good ideas

Been a lot happening around here but none of it on this guitar. I did receive my brass sheet to make the headstock logo so now it's time and weather that I need.Hopefully on the weekend. I really want to hear this !
that green black burst looks great, not enough green guitars
Dedman you will get there. If the weather isn't suitable for spraying start your brass inlay logo or something else !
I have a speaker cab (12" Celestion Greenback on the way) to build and a pedal board but I really want to hear that hollow body :P
So, cut out and inletted the brass headstock logo today. It's not 100% because 1 piece moved slightly after/during clamping, but you really have to look to notice it. Pretty happy with it for my first try at inlay. Pics tomorrow but its the same design as the decal I used on the JR. Neck painting tomorrow weather permitting.
Speaker arrived for my cab so, I guess I should do a build thread on that.
sounds good Dedman, that's teasing us making us wait till tomoz for a photo of the logo !
cabinet sounds like an interesting project too !
