Ah yes Nik, love your surfcaster. From memory you blended 2x Wudtone (surfer girl & azure sky)? The natural colour of this ash has added itsa own natural glow to the Wudtone. Did you use any highlights on yours? This is my next job.
Highlights added. Hard to see in these photos but you should get the general idea...

Silver surfer.
Yeah thats looking cool
3rd final coat to be applied to body. Colour is much richer in real life. Neck finish done, time to press in machine head ferrules and fit bone nut. Then a week or so of curing.
Also my PBG supplied Benson Texas pups have arrived!

looking sweet as Ponch, what clear have you used on this, is it wudtone clear ? I lose track on all the build diaries what products everyone uses. Looks like a satin finish,
where is the headstock logo Ponch ?
Same here, there's a lot going on at the moment! This is Wudtone gloss with ageing tint.

ok cool Ponch, I remember now the wudtone gloss coats you had to apply about 20 coats to get a real gloss
love it bro !
those paua shell fret inlays will really pop with the surfer girl stain
That's about right! On the other hand the Dingotone on neck was glassy gloss on coat 3. I knocked back a bit with steel wool and perfecto.

good stuff Ponch, I'll be using the DT mark 2 clear on my uluru tele soon, can't wait to try it
my 32 ounce TO bottle is cactus so I need to try get myself out of the naughty warehouse - good luck Woks !!
Built a jig this afternoon to press in the machine head bushings. Total cost 70 cents. One quarter inch bolt, 2x washers, one nut and some scrap wood with a hole drilled through it.

And a video of the jig. The vintage sized bushings are very tight..

Clever Andrew.
Update picture, quick mock build to check all ok..
The tape is to hold in the pickguard and not an EVH effort

looks great Ponch, what is the reverse headstock like with the longer run of the wound strings ?
I reckon a EVH surf strat could look cool ? haha
Are you putting a headstock logo on ? You know the judges will knock off a mark if there's no logo haha
Feels a bit weird Woks. You don't have to bend strings so far on the treble side. As I'm a leftie in all but guitar playing the upside down machine heads feel normal!
Decal, I'll end up veneering the headstock (to cover drill through better) so will wait until then.

haha ok sounds good Ponch. I'm also a lefty but do many things right handed - guitar, scissors, golf/cricket bat (Mosrite haha) and PC mouse !
look forward to seeing the headstock veneer
