Nice work Davey that Brindle burst is sweet
My last dog was a 67kg Bullmastiff,, it must be the bulldog in all these dogs that gives them their temperament
Thanks Tony..

Beautiful progress davey..you're very fast builder..Will you give him oil finish?
S!
Thanks Sansan... the majority of these pics, aside from the ones sent yesterday, were taken over the last week... I just dumped them all at once.. I feel like Im creeping along.. lol. I have the luxury of a "real job" that has lots of downtime, plus a full carpenter shop. I do some of the work at my home shop, but its nice to have access to good shop tools!

...and yes.. Im planning on some sort of rubbed oil finish.

How about mash them together put the numbered section and top cap of the originals onto turned down walnut ones?
Not a bad Idea... I think I have some of these plastic ones kicking around at home... wont be able to get to doing that til Monday, but Ill try it.. I can shrink the wood down a bit and CAREFULLY cut the top and the numbered ring off...great project for next week..
Today's project is the neck pickup ring. I made a walnut one, but trashed it because it looked like a lightswitch cover. I have the portions I cut off of the pick guard and will probably make a temporary one from that until I can get some black/white/black material...

I forget who was asking, but I figured out what the binding stuff I used was... lol. I also figured out why it took the stain so easily and wouldnt scrape like plastic... its WOOD. Its called marquetry purfling... had I researched a bit, I may have gotten something different but Im very happy with the outcome... The neck is glued and clamped! Ill take some pics in the morning....
Cheers!
Dave
So the clamp came off on Sat...

Geez my bench is a mess!! Today, I put 2 strings on to see if my soldering skills were up to par... it made noise! Very happy Dave! Lol. Tomorrow, I will string it up, tune it, fix intonation, action, etc... Im waiting on some bwb pickguard material to arrive to make my permanent pickup ring. I have a water decal with my logo on it, to fit the kit TRC, but I may use a piece of flamed maple scrap I have to make a custom one... more to come tomorrow night....
Heres the temp pickup ring... before I set the neck, obviously...Attachment 9311
Coming along very nicely
Really looking forward to seeing this fully assembled. Looks like a kickass build and a fitting tribute!
Cheers,
Gav.
this is all kinds of awesome!
totally awesome Davey...
Very nice work
Thank everyone.. Im very excited to get it done, and sad at the same time.. lol. .

Gonna re-try the walnut pickup ring. If I could get it thinner than I had it before, it may look better than a lightswitch coverplate! Lol...
Dave
Well.... I just spent about an hour playing Kilmister One!! I was having a hum issue, then traced my wiring only to find my jack wires reversed.. duh... fixed that, a final trussrod adjustment, tuning, recheck intonation...and jammed away! I may have to tweak the action down a tad, but It feels pretty darned good! There are still some finishing touches too.. TRC, pup ring, etc.. Ill be bringing it to the studio on Thurs, so Ill try to get some sound clips while were there... I've re-learned a lot of things on this build, and learned some new things that Ill take with me onto the next.. This is an awesome forum! Thanks for your comments and support!
Dave
It's ALIVE!Attachment 9328
looks awesome Davey, look forward to a sound demo.
Looks like you got a cool axe collection, is that a real Gibbo FV and a Dimebag Dean ?
The Dime is a Washburn.. he played them after Dean..He may have gone back and forth too.. not exactly sure... its a 332, in "Girl-o-flage". It's the only one I've seen in that finish... I just got it from a friend of mine for not a lot of money...lol. The laminate was peeling on the headstock, and it needed some tlc, but it plays really nice now. The Vee is not a real Gibson. I got it from some kid who tried to tell me it was.. Im not stupid and I know guitars. It had no electronics, but its a set-neck, solid mahogany body and is a really, REALLY nice copy. I made the kid feel really dumb, then gave him less than $100 (US) for it. I put in some EMG pickups, and the thing screams! Im getting ready to put a flametop on the wings, with the center strip left mahogany... I built the wall rack to save space and have it look really cool... lol.. there are also a few that are on stands.. not in the pic...

cool collection Davey, love the story about the FV ! You got an axe for just about every genre there !
My favorite shape, and a guitar Ive liked for a long time, is the BC Rich Mockingbird... seems to me that I saw a kit that resembles it very closely.. mightve been that Aussie company.. is it "bulldog guitars"? Or "pitstop guitars"? Lol... might be my next guitar related purchase..

cool Davey, sure you will build a killer MB-1 kit !
Hello,
Made a TRC out of some flamed maple... black stain sanded back, then some walnut and oil... it's pretty 3d flickery in different lights and angles. Ill see what it looks like when I get home...

Looks good and in keeping with the already organic appearance you have been creating.
Thanks Waz... I redid the walnut pup ring as well, and Im much more happy with it. Ill be installing it today... Going to the studio to jam later.. Ill try to get some sound or video...

yes that is going to look mighty fine once installed. the Walnut should polish up beautifully too...wood envy..dammit!
There must be something about Daves and RCA-4's...
There is a guy here in the UK called Dave Kronig who ran Retrovibe guitars, also sells on ebay under the name Probass. He sells Lemmy style pickups. I have a set of his regular Rick style pickups in my RCA-4.

Very cool!
I played mine with my band the other night.. should have sound soon.. just not sure how to post it... we have been playing a Motörhead medley since Lemmy's passing, and we jammed it out thurs... I had no voice all day friday.. as it turns out, I have strep throat as well as brochitis.. lol... guess that wasnt such a great idea!. Ill get some pics up later.. I got my walnut pup ring mounted (without breaking it!) It looks pretty cool...
