I'm a little torn on the headstock as well... maple veneer or glass black?
Hey Mick looking good. You are the one that makes the decision on the headstock. I think both ideas will look good. Is the maple veneer flamed?
great pics as always Mick, very nice.
Manned up and re-drilled the headstock today... it went well!

As the pluged holes weren't covered by the bushes on the front I went for a maple veneer on the front of the headstock... I was very close to painting it gloss black.

I am disappointed.
I am convinced you could have put more clamps on :)
looks good Mick can't wait to see the maple veneer cleaned up
maple veneer cleaned up nice!

nice one Mick looks great, so it's plain maple ? can't see any flaming.
Best drill out your tuner holes carefully and expose the truss rod hole
Yeah just nice and plain... matches the fretboard in terms of colour perfectly and hides the plugged tuner hole... mission accomplished.
Already opened all the holes back up as well :) time for a sand and some poly!
that's right I forgot you had to cover up the plugged tuner holes.
nice work look forward to seeing the clear coats
you wouldn't even know there was a veneer on there :P

That's a great job with the veneer, Mick! The clamp attack must have worked!
if in doubt... more clamps!
nice job Mick, looks like the same maple originally on the headstock face ! But now the tuner holes are in line !
Very neat job Mick and always loving the arty black and white photos.
Looking great Mick. Top job on that headstock man you really smashed it. Are you going to colour the neck/headstock?
cheers,
Gav.
Cheers guys,
I'd been tossing up the idea of doing either a gloss black or colour matched headstock to cover where I re drilled the tuner holes but couldn't really get on board because I'm a fan of the simple looking 'classic' headstocks so I went with the maple veneer.
I shot a coat of clear polyurethane all over the neck this morning to keep it looking simple and classy.
Great job with the headstock and veneer & love the photos.
wet and dry to 1200 and then a mock build.... hopefully get it polished over the weekend :D

That's going to end up nice and shiny with a polish. Can't wait for the big reveal!
This is looking crackerjack, eagerly awaiting the finished axe!

haha I know Fretty, just thought Mick might have a weak moment and reveal the colour
I'm still stumped Mick, it looks like a dark colour in the B & W pics
It's grey. :P
We suffer for his art.
Weirdy you know what's happening on the forum, any idea what colour it is ?
Maybe Pink?
haha good guess Ponch but only Gavmiester likes pink axes
